    Not sure if this is linked to the Preview Program or not but I thought I'd start here first.

    Recently my Xbox has not been booting up the external hard drive when I turn it on from standby mode (Instant On). If I restart the console, power it off completely and turn it back on or disconnect the drive and reconnect it, it will then detect the hard drive. I only notice this happening when it prompts me saying I need to install the game in or says it can't find it after being powered up from standby.

    Flash forward to today where I come to play some of the Modern Warfare campaign before I head to work later on... It prompts me for an update which I accept only to then check that my external drive has not been detected. Knowing it's downloading something I already have, I cancel it then reboot my console. The console then boots up fine and I click on the game disc icon to start playing only to find it's prompting me for another update... this time a 75.84GB one... the same one I installed 2 days ago.

    Alarm bells are ringing now so I go to "My Games and Apps" to find the game icon is not there! Then I visit the queue to see the list of recently installed items and find Campaign Pack 1 & 2, Multiplayer Pack and Special Ops packs as recently installed. No mention of the 75.84GB update anywhere.

    So at the minute I'm sat here pretty pissed that my Xbox has uninstalled the game when I have a spare couple of minutes to play it.

    To prevent this from happening again I've turned off Instant-On power mode, instead opting to cold boot each time as it is only the Instant-On mode having issues. I've been using this feature for years giving the console the option to turn off storage when powered down in standby mode and never had problems until now, which makes me think it might be related to the recent updates. I can't find any mention of other people having issues either so not sure if this is an isolated incident either?

    Xbox One's HDD still spinning when it's off, normal?

    The xbox one is made to always be on even when its off. It will auto download updates when in standby. If you go into the settings you can actually disable the instant on feature and it will FULLY shut down. This will make it so it has to boot longer
    since it wont be in standby, but turning the instant on feature to energy saving mode it will completly turn it off. Note: when energy saving mode is on the "Xbox On" kinect function will not work for obvious reasons.

    You say "booting from standby" so hence you mean in instant on mode yes?, as with the "instant on" playing up peoples nat,which I believe the last patch fixed,maybe this is another underlying problem that has arose.

    I dont leave my xb1 on standby when not playing as I believe the whole system isnt fully functional yet,hope your call to support gets you more answers.

    The Xternal Hard Drive is USB 3.0, I think Hard Disk with 5 TB don't Exist

    Instant on is the same thing as standby mode in the updated version so it’s not longer called “instant on” it’s new name is “Standby”

    If you have your console in instant on mode, the console often downloads game updates and system updates during the standby time.

    Depending on what the console is doing, it can power up several devices like the internal hard drive, external USB hard drives, the BluRay drive etc.

    These devices can make a beep-like sound when spinning up, or moving the laser head of the BluRay drive.

    If you could make a video/audio recording and put it up on YouTube, showing what sound your console makes, we could help better.

    Or check if the sound still happens, when you keep the console plugged in, but put the console to power saving mode in the energy settings.
