XSX Controllers Intermittently Disconnecting / Reconnecting / Unresponsive

Hi there,

For the past few months, I've been experiencing the following symptoms with all of my controllers with my Xbox Series X:

Intermittently disconnecting and reconnecting a few moments later

Intermittent input lag or "overshooting" (e.g., when turning the camera in a game, camera will keep turning after releasing joystick); often happens right before the first symptom above

Controller intermittently disconnects, reconnects, but then becomes unresponsive, i.e. center Xbox light is solid, but can't control Xbox, and controller doesn't appear in Controller Settings on the Xbox

These symptoms happen to 3 different controllers, one of which is from a friend that works fine with his Xbox. Sometimes these symptoms can happen 10-15x in one session and sometimes several days can go by with no issue, but on average it's at least 2-3x a day. In any case, the symptoms have persisted and it makes gameplay difficult and frustrating. I've had the Xbox for several years without this issue - it's only started happening over the last few months.

I've scoured the internet across various forums and reddit threads and have tried all of these, none of which have worked:

Resync all controllers

Software updates for Xbox/controllers

Power cycle Xbox and controllers

Factory reset Xbox, with and without keeping games

Disabled Bose Soundbar 300

Disabled WiFi and Universal Control Settings on LG UQ8000 TV

Switched channels on WiFi Router for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz

Unplugged Xbox's external hard drive

At this point, it seems like the root cause could be (1) internal damage to the Xbox and its wireless functionality with controllers (possible as I recently shipped it overseas, albeit wrapped snugly in a suitcase), or (2) interference from some other source I haven't disabled.

Does anyone have any other suggestions on what could be the cause, things to try, or ways I could rule things out ? The Xbox was purchased late 2020 so is out of warranty. At this point I'm on the verge of replacing the Xbox but don't want to do so unless I know the replacement Xbox won't suffer from the same issues.

I guess I'll have to give this a try. Not sure what I'll end up doing as i have a lot of IoT devices connected to the 2.4 band and most of them (largely smart plugs/lights) wont work on anything but 2.4. Thanks....will report back findings

For me the issue no longer persist since i changed my wifi channel of my modem

hi, has anyone come across a solution to this issue. Experiencing the exact same thing. The issue seems to span my 3 xbox (series x) controllers. I just purchased a brand new controller the other week and same thing is happening. I read somewhere else the 2.4 ghz wifi could be causing the issue which I'll test by turning it off but other than that I've tried all the things everyone else has already mentioned. its hard to find any working solution

Thanks for the response, Mankel He Menace. I tried your above steps but unfortunately the problem soon occurred again after reconnecting the controller to the Xbox.

Also noting that the issue has persisted even after the latest console update for April.
