Xbox X won’t allow 2160P 60Hz RGB to my PC Monitor whereas PS4 Pro does.

Hi All,

I've just bought a new Xbox X. I'm having an issue with the Xbox not allowing 2160p RGB output over HDMI.

I have a PS4 pro and I don't have this issue, it will allow me to output at 2160P RGB 60hz and then select HDMI RGB range as full on my PC Monitor. I have the Iiyama G-Master GB2888UHSU-B1.

the Xbox seems to be forcing YCbCr encoding rather than using RGB over HDMI even when I select RGB PC encoding in the menus?! I can tell the Xbox is enforcing YCbCr as the option to select the HDMI range is greyed out when the source is YCbCr on my monitor.

When I use the override HDMI function (in the menus) I can select the RGB output at 1440p and below but the Xbox will now allow 4k and comes up with the error that 4k 60hz isn’t supported by my monitor. This is very odd but seems to be with a handshake issue
with the Xbox thinking the display is a TV rather than PC monitor.

Any ideas? It’s not a gamebreaker as my monitor will still work ok with YCbCr encoding but I’d rather use RGB Full Range which it’s designed to handle best and my PS4 Pro would allow no issues. I've tried the usual trouble shooting with different cables etc
and this didn’t help.

It is worth buying a 4K 144hz monitor for Xbox Series X, However you need to make sure the monitor has HDMI 2.1,

Xbox One X uses HDMI 2.0 and HDMI 2.0 bandwidth can only do 4K at 60hz,

HDMI 2.1 of the Xbox Series X will allow it to go to 4K at 120hz, but only if you have a TV or monitor with HDMI 2.1, and a refresh rate of 120hz or higher.

Unlikely, as there is no purposes in doing so. as no Xbox software renders above 60hz. Your monitor already scales and doubles to a fixed refresh rate anyway. If you want high refresh rates you need to use a pC or possibly waiting for Series X

Understandable but the xbox one x does not even allow me to select 1440p option with VRR via freesync for my monitor. Shouldnt it work so games capped at 60 fps are matching with the monitors refresh rate if frames increase or decrease?

A 720p/60hz TV is pretty much bottom of the barrel in terms of performance, even when they were new. . I would expect lots of lag no matter what mode. Just use whatever mode it defaults to, because even if it takes the signal, you’re not seeing any benefit on the typical electronics in those sets

you dont know there was some PC TV that are both monitor and TV. it does have a VGA/D-SUB connections behind.
