    Xbox X + Sony TV best visual settings


    Dear Community,

    Finally I switched from the One S to Xbox X. My setup is with Sony KD-65XH9096.

    The signal goes directly from the console to the TV. Then another HDMI from the TV to Soundbar (both eARC). I already dealt with the Dolby Atmos whenever is supported (or lower audio details if not).

    Regarding the video quality.

    So - everything is supposed to be set up as possible. HDMI cable - high quality 2.1. Enhanced mode on. Output 3 & 4.

    I have the following options to play in:

    - regular HDR

    - Dolby Vision (if supported)

    - VRR (120 Hz) (TV setting Game)

    All of those successfully picked green in the console control check.

    The thing is I have a strong feeling I don't achieve the expected video quality. The screen is a bit pale, black is not very blackish. The sunrays, colors are not so impressive like often seen on some test videos in YouTube i.e.

    Kind question - from the above 3 options (HDR, DV, VRR) what is the best assumed setting in my setup and how to achieve the best quality with black and vivid colors?

    PS. Tested in various games like BG3, AC:Valhalla, Witcher 3 and others.

    Hi BartlomiejB. My name is Kyle and I'm an independent advisor.

    You have an LED TV, these types of displays aren't known for their deep blacks or high contrast. The TV's backlight will make the blacks look grey. The only TVs that can produce perfect blacks are OLED. Mini-LED is a close second. You may be able to change your TV settings to improve this, but I'm afraid this is not something we can help you with in detail on this Xbox forum.

    I recommend keeping all of those 3 options enabled. When supported, Dolby Vision will provide superior image quality, but regular HDR will still provide a better picture than SDR. VRR should also remain on, this will make your gameplay feel smoother in games that support 120Hz or unlocked framerates.

    Sadly what you are asking for is already been optimized for the best performance and best visual experience, it is set to those settings for best of both worlds by game devs for the different types of console like the Xbox X is set slightly differently and
    cannot be changed any more than the limit ions the devs have set as.
