    XBox X Series audio suddenly not working


    Good morning,

    I use my XBox Series X connected via HDMI to a Samsung UN55J6200 Smart TV, with audio output through a Yamaha R-S202BL Receiver. I've had this set up since I bought the console a little under two years ago (and an XBox One before that) without issue. I played a game and watched streaming services on the XBox throughout the day yesterday without an audio issue, until about 10pm last night. This morning, however, there was no sound coming through.

    Here are the troubleshooting steps I have already tried:

    • Reboot and power cycle of XBox System.
    • XBox System Reset.
    • XBox audio settings reset and ensured "Stereo uncompressed" was selected for the Speaker audio.
      • I don't have a headset connected, but that is set to Windows Sonic for Headphones. Toggling other options had no effect.
      • No additional options are selected as far as "allow passthrough", "mono output", or any muting options.
      • Power chime is set to "On"
    • TV audio settings reset.
    • Checked all input and output cables on TV, XBox, and receiver.
    • Checked other devices on receiver to ensure speakers are working. I get audio on both my record player and FM radio tuner.
    • Tried different input source ports and HDMI cables from XBox to TV.
    • Tried using different input source/line from TV to receiver.
    • Tried using native TV speaker without audio output and there is no sound.
    There is no power chime or navigation sounds. So, no audio from system sounds, streaming apps, disc games, and downloaded games. The system ran a successful update on 02/21/2025, and has been operating fine until now. OS Version 10.0.26100.3362 (xb_flt_2502ge.250212-2140), Shell version 2502.0.2502.12003.

    I'm truly at a loss and would greatly appreciate any advice!

    Xbox series x no sound

    My issue is the same. My additional input: I just bought the X-Box Series X 2 weeks ago. I transferred all my games over. At first, every game I tried worked fine. Then the system suddenly decided yesterday to upgrade the newer games to the Series X versions of the games. Every game that is older and doesn't have a Series X upgrade works perfectly. It's only the games that have upgraded to Series X versions of the games that have "no audio" issues.

    For reference, I do have a Samsung smart TV as well, a I've been reading other with this issue may also have. I have audio on the dashboard.

    Hoping for a fix soon. Thanks.

    Just Dance on Xbox Series X

    Considering the Kinect doesn't work with the Xbox One X without the use of an adapter (which Microsoft no longer makes), I highly doubt Microsoft will suddenly make it work with the Xbox Series X.

    Kinect is dead and should stay dead, it was a terrible idea for the Xbox One and its still a terrible idea.

    Does Microsoft have a plan to fix the "no audio" issues with the Xbox series x games?

    my xbox series X is playing up i have no game audio for xbox one and series X games, xbox 360 game worked fine, i reset my console kept games and apps and no audio still. i dunno ill call support when i can, Im using samesung 4k hdr qled tv and it worked fine a few hours ago and then just stopped. and last few months been having no menu sound and start up sound too issue now no games audio :(

    I have almost the same problem except the error message says

    “if you’re using Xbox series X/S, note that HDMI audio can’t be turned off. In other consoles, either optical or HDMI audio must be on. (0x80bd0009)

    Why can’t I turn off hdmi audio on Xbox series x it makes no sense?

    Controller Not Being Detected By Edge Broswer

    Hi. The controller I have is "PowerA Enhanced Wired Controller for Xbox Series X|S". There is a section for PowerA in verified controllers. It use to work for me just fine for over a year. I am not sure why suddenly it is not working. Any ideas?
