Xbox X occasionally won’t acknowledge button presses.

This is a difficult problem to explain so please bare with me.

Occasionally when I’ve been on a game for several hours,

When I go to close the game or shut down the console,

The Xbox will accept the home button and start button press to open up the set menus. But when I press A to close the game or shut down the console the console registers the button press with the graphic “press” illustration. But will not actually do anything, the only way I have to cause it to actually close the game or shut down is to hold the button down (the animation of the button being pressed shows rapidly) eventually it will close the app or shut down the console. The issue persists until the console is restarted. At which point the console works perfectly again. Yes I can restart or shutdown the console manually, but it’s still a problem that is reoccurring.

Did you reset it by performing a power cycle?

If you did not please do so :

Turn off your console by holding the Xbox button  on the front of the console for approximately 10 seconds. The console will turn off.

Once the lights on the front of the console, unplug the power cable from the rear of the console.

Wait at least 2 minutes

Turn your console back on by pressing the Xbox button  on the console or the Xbox button  on your controller.

If you did please try performing a factory reset

If you’re ready to reset your console to the factory default settings, follow these steps:

Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.

Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Console info.

Select Reset console.

I just got an Xbox One X yesterday and experiencing the same issue. In addition, my controller won’t power on when pressing the home button. I also tried the methods Leslie suggested and no luck.

me too!! i can enter months, date but no keyboard or drop down box appears for year. the continue button with an X enter symbol shows works but under it the privacy policy and Y symbol doesn’t work either when pressing Y. i’ve tried just pressing x/continue and it won’t work bc the year ain’t put in

I find that the A button on my Elite 2 occasionally does not respond to a press, whereas the other face buttons always do.
