Is this an issue with the device itself and needs warranty repair (just inside warranty) or is it a firmware / shell issue that is affecting a wider group of people?

    resets/restarts made no difference.

Xbox X auto update on 14-Dec device now switching off mid game and prompted with insufficient ventilation warning on restart

    Hi,

I'm going to assume this is a Series X, since you've stated it is within warranty.

There are several reasons for this issue.

    • Your console is sitting in a location where there little or no ventilation. Modern consoles get hot, they need to take in cool air and blow out hot air. Try moving your console to a more suitable location (do not put it in a cabinet for example).
    • If your console has been in a restricted location for a long time, it may have developed a hardware faut.
    • Your console has become clogged with dust and can no longer cool itself.
    • The temperature sensor hardware is faulty and shutting down the console.

Try changing the location of the console to somewhere it can breath. Failing that, it will need to be repaired.

yes series X - just a co-incidence then that it started right after a firmware/OS update (and thankfully days inside warranty)

off to repair it is then

My xbox one deleted an app, I can't afford constant updates. Hating this, never buying another xbox console, game or microsoft product.

If you cancel the update mid-stream you essentially have corrupted the game install. The Xbox is updating the game software as it is downloading the patch that way it does not have to reserve hard drive space for a potentially large patch. Users would
be complaining why cant I use my entire hard drive.

    Turn off automatic updates.

    Put it offline.

FYI PC's also have an auto-update mode now as well.

Question for those getting black screen when starting games

I have found a Temporary Fix

You will need to go into your storage do a cache clean 3 times, then Press LB RB X LB RBX on your storage device screen. This will remove your System Update. Hit Yes. System will restart> When it loads back up decline the update. If you have Auto Sign in
active disable it. Restart the console. Allow the update to proceed. After the system update completes, DO not sign it yet. Load the game off line. When the game loads and prompts you to sign in do so. if the game needs an up date allow it. the game will load
    and play online.

When you need to switch games repeat only the process of restart the console and starting the game or app offline then sign in. This temporary fix is working.
