Xbox Wireless Controller Warranty Expired Already Before Opening?

I purchased a new, unopened Xbox Wireless Controller May 18 off of eBay, and when I received the package it was still sealed. However, when I opened the box and registered the controller with my Microsoft account, it said that the warranty on the controller had expired a couple of months previous. I don't see how this could be, and I am frustrated as I need to make a warranty claim as my controller has started to have really bad stick drift. The seller that I bought from is very reputable and confirmed with me that the controller was brand new and unopened. Please help if you can!

Hello, I would contact the seller and explain what's going on. Yes the controller was NEW, but its no telling how longer seller had it in their possession. Not sure if seller would honor and let you return due to the warranty being expired. They sold a brand new controller not warranty with it. Just explain to seller and see what they say. If you do get a answer please let us know the outcome.

hence why you by new goods from a retailer not ebay, when you purchase from a retailer microsoft can change the warranty status to reflect your purchase date on your receipt.

For sure that if your repaired that the warranty expired. because the xbox was open.

My best bet would be sending the controller to support if its in warranty period, but I don't know if that is an option for you.

Before opening your controller, I would try downloading the Xbox Accessories app for Xbox One or Windows 10 and try to configure the dead zone of the joystick in there, to see if that solves your issue before attempting to open the controller and voiding
warranty.
