XBox wireless controller on Windows 10 Pro won't bluetooth

    Hello,

I have not used a controller before and want to use for online gaming, on my Windows 10 Pro PC. When plugged in, Device Manager shows the controller has the most current driver, but Bluetooth is not finding it, when unplugged.

Is it absolutely necessary to have Windows 10 Anniversary edition, in order to use this wirelessly? Any suggestions out there? I'm new to gaming and clueless, so don't be afraid to assume I know nothing.

    Thank you.

    :)

XBox wireless controller on Windows 10 Pro won't bluetooth

    Hello Andy,

On the support page WPAK posted. there is a picture that shows the controllers. Controllers with Bluetooth capability the part around the Xbox logo button is part of the face of the controller. Non blue tooth the part around the Xbox logo is part of the
top plastic. Check that and let us know.

    Thanks,

    Brad

XBox wireless controller on Windows 10 Pro won't bluetooth

Thank you--I appreciate your help here.

It looks like the OS is OK but not sure this system has what it takes. My plan was to use the controller on the PC and play the game on Stream.

Do you think this will be enough:

Windows 10 Pro, Version 1809 (OS Build 17763.253)

    Processor: Intel Core i7-8550U CPU @ 1.80GHz 1.99 GHz

    16 GB RAM

    311 GB free space

    Internet speed is 69 mpbs.

The Xbox controller is wireless, and I can find other bluetooth devices on my system, just not this controller. When plugged in, the controller appears and has latest driver. Haven't tried it on Stream yet but assume the controller works.

Is it absolutely necessary to have Windows 10 Anniversary edition, in order to use this wirelessly?...
Yes, in order to be able to connect a Xbox One controller via Bluetooth, you will have to have Windows 10 Anniversary Edition or newer (currently Version 1803 or 1809).

You can check which version of Windows you have by pressing Windowskey + R and typing "winver" into the dialogue window, then press OK.

It should say "Windows 10, Microsoft Windows Version 1809 (Build 17[whatever])"

If you don't have Windows 10 at all, you can either connect the controller via USB cable, or

get a wireless adapter to plug into an USB port
    .

Be aware however, that you can
simply download Windows 10 from Microsoft
(do NOT download it anywhere else), and you can simply use the serial number from your Windows 7 or 8 to activate Windows 10 "for free", still. Microsoft hasn't technically blocked upgrading to 10 yet.

Or if you already have Windows 10 but it's older than the Anniversary Update, you can also use Windows Update to upgrade your Windows to the next newer version, or

simply download the latest version from Microsoft
, and upgrade it from that download.

Be aware however, that if your PC has older Intel Atom processors (usually small Netbook laptops or very old "piggyback" computer cases that you could put behind your monitor), that newer Windows 10 versions don't support older Intel Atom processors anymore.

In order to check for that, simply press Windowskey + Pause/Break and check the processor model on your PC.

But since you are trying to game with a gamepad on the PC, I'll assume you have a rather powerful and modern machine for gaming.

XBox wireless controller on Windows 10 Pro won't bluetooth

    Hi there Andy,

Thanks for the reply. In reference to connecting the Xbox One Controller, please take into account the following:

    • Bluetooth requires a PC running the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. See
      Windows Update: FAQ
to learn how to get the latest Windows update.
    • For best performance, update your controller. See
How to update your Xbox One Controller on Windows 10
      .
    • Bluetooth is supported on PCs, tablets, and laptops. It is not supported on mobile devices.
    • Bluetooth does not support any attachments, such as headsets, chatpads, or the Xbox Stereo Adapter.
    • We recommend connecting only one controller at a time using Bluetooth.

Follow these steps to pair your controller to your PC using Bluetooth:
    1. Make sure you have updated your PC to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. See
      Windows Update: FAQ
to learn how to get the latest Windows update.
    2. For best performance, update your controller. See
How to update your Xbox One Controller on Windows 10
      .
    3. Turn on your Xbox Wireless Controller by pressing the Xbox button.
    4. Press the controller Connect button for three seconds and release.
    5. On your PC, select Start, then Settings > Devices >
      Bluetooth & other devices.
    6. Turn on Bluetooth so your PC can discover Bluetooth devices.
    7. Select Xbox Wireless Controller > Pair.
    For help with Bluetooth, see
Connect and troubleshoot Bluetooth on your Xbox One Wireless Controller
    .

Try this out and let us know the results.

    Hi Brad,

Thank you for asking. The controller does appear to be wireless, not only in matching the drawing, but also since it was packaged in the Wireless version's box, at the store where I bought it new.
