The Xbox Wireless adaptor disconnects the established wired connection, and when wireless I can't hear any sound from the controller when headset is plugged in.

I have searched Windows Update for a driver fix but can't find anything. I should be able to use the controller interchangeably wired or wireless.

Anyone know what I can try? I am using windows 11.

    :)

    Hi Brett,

I haven't got the benefit of having an additional pc, but this same issue was happening when I used a different controller too - so it must be something with the laptop. Do you have any ideas?

Of note, I remember that with the other controller it actually caused some issue where I had to re-install the laptop's chipset drivers - think it messed up the USB, so nothing worked in the USB ports. Then after that chipset re-installation all seemed ok for a while with that controller before it stopped working properly wirelessly too as stated (no audio coming out of controller, and it knocked out the wired connection of the controller, so I couldn't charge the controller or play wired, it wouldn't even turn on, but you can hear the rumble kick in for a second when plugged in, but no xbox guide button light turns on). Then with the current controller I noticed that even though the old controller had the issues mentioned - it still worked normally, so I thought it would be ok and the issue was just controller specific. But then all of a sudden it started doing what the old controller was doing as described, except my USB ports have maintained working with other devices and the chipset drivers haven't needed to be re-installed.

If you think there might still be this issue with the laptop (despite other USB devices working in the USB ports) then I might have to send it to the manufacturers to get inspected. I believe I'm still under warranty.

    What do you think?

Like I say, I can play with the controller wired if I don't attempt to later install the Xbox Wireless Adapter. To me it seems something up with the adapter..

I have looked online for another adapter but they all seem sold out on Amazon & Microsoft.

Thanks, I found somewhere to order a new adapter earlier so when that arrives I will be able to identify whether the laptop needs to go back for a check or not.

Hello It's O, My name is Brett. I am an independent advisor, happy to help you today.

Sorry to hear that you are still having issues. What kind of USB port are you using on your device? And what kind of desktop/laptop are you using? Additionally, while it should not, using Win 11 may be causing a driver issue.

Additionally, have you tried the controller & adapter on another device?

Hello It's O, My name is David. I am an independent advisor, happy to help you today.

Since the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows drivers are included in the Windows 10 operating system, the adapter should install automatically. If not, try the solutions:

Make sure your Windows 10 device is connected to the Internet.
Make sure your Windows 10 device is updating by going to Windows Update from your device and checking for available updates.
Restart your device and try again.
Make sure USB ports are not disabled in Device Manager.
Try another USB 2.0 or 3.0 port.

Try reinstalling the drivers in case they have been partially installed. For this, you need to uninstall the drivers. Follow these steps to carry out this process:
    Go to Device Manager.
Look for Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows in the Network Adapters section.
Click Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows to open the Properties window.
    Click the Driver tab.
On the Driver tab, click the Uninstall button.
In the confirmation window, activate Remove the driver software for this device.
Disconnect the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows and restart your Windows 10 device. When your device is back up and running, plug in the adapter.

    Best regards.

    Hi Brett,

I have not had a chance to try the controller and adapter on a different device. I have an MSI laptop. I have checked the MSI website for any updates but nothing I haven't already got or can either install from the MSI Center.

I have tried a different controller however and have the same issue. Would the 23H2 Windows 11 update make things any better if it's down to Windows? Are Microsoft due to release an updated Xbox wireless adapter?

I'm not sure if I'm the only one getting this issue. At present I can only use the controller with a USB cable.
