I use a xbox series x controller (Not the elite) connected to my pc via a xbox wireless adaptor. When I am done playing a game, I quit the game and return back to the desktop and then turn of the xbox controller, I get a error in reliability monitor telling me APPCRASH dwm.exe and the faulting module is gameinput.dll. This issue does not happen all the time, but the steps that lead up to the error are always the same, most of the time when I quit a game and turn of the controller its fine no issues, the controller just turns of no problems, but at some random times when I quit a game and turn the controller off this issue happens. I can replicate the issue after running a game and quitting the game and turning of the controller and repeating this a few times and then the issue eventually comes up, the steps are always running a game, quitting the game and turning of the controller and eventually this error will appear after doing this a few times. This is 100% a windows issue since Bluetooth I have no issues using the same controller. PLEASE MICOROSOFT FIX THIS, ITS ANNOYING.

Before greg joins here and pastes his gold standard of fixing the problem and always says these are steps that helped everyone else, I recommend you actually read what I wrote. Also I rather not have greg reply to this with his nonsense.

I have re-installed the OS twice, via a usb with a ISO on it. I have the latest gpu drivers, I have the latest chipset/bios drivers. Done the whole disable none windows services and clean boot. I have Updated everything, I have updated the controller and dongle. All other usb devices work perfectly fine. This issue occours when turning of the xbox controller after quiting a game.

specs: 7900x x670e asus mobo, rtx 3080, 64gb 5200mhzt ram, 1000wat evga psu plat rating

Edit: Other then this pc works fine, no issues gaming, controller works fine, runs fine, connects fine. Its at random times when I turn of the controller after quiting the game this issue happens

    :)

what hardware have u changed when u got windows 11? I never had this issue tbh, it just randomly started when one day I was turning of the controller. The issue just poped up, I actually thought it was windows 11 22h2 or a update since I never had this issue before, but u are saying u had this issue for a year, which is strange tbh. A year a go I never had this problem but the problem u have is the same as a few others I have come across. Could u list the hardware that u were using on ur old windows 10, and then can you list all the new hardware u have on windows 11 machine. That way I want to see if there is any old hardware u are using on windows 11 machine that u had installed on windows 10. Also how long have u had your new windows 11 pc?

what was ur cpu, gpu, ram, motherboard, psu on the windows 10 computer and then list the cpu, gpu, ram, motherboard, psu for ur new windows 11 pc.

Edit: How are u connecting the controller? are u using a XBOX Wireless adaptor? or Wired/Bluetooth

    Thank you

Never had this issue before. I've been using the controller a bit every day since I installed Windows 5 days ago, and today is the first time I noticed it. Though the Event Viewer shows it happened one other time, 4 days ago. I was installing and configuring a lot of stuff, so who knows if anything contributed to it.

Never noticed this on Win10, but it's easy for me to miss if I'm not around looking at the screen when the controller powers off, and the Event Viewer logs are gone

Just a question, u also never had this issue before right? Before I loose my mind and start taking out my ram sticks and start testing one by one. For my sanity sake, just checking, because I never had this issue before, just Wana make sure u are in the same boat, since owning Ur pc and using windows u never experienced this issue?

I see Ur in the insider's build of windows 11, did u install insider's to see if that fixes the issue of the controller or were u a insider and then had the issue. Because I am on a stable release not insider I am trying to see what maybe the cause here. Also are u using a wireless Xbox adapter to connect Ur controller? Or are u using Bluetooth?
