Xbox Wireless Adapter showing Unknown USB Device

    Hi,

My Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 no longer registers when I plug it into any USB socket on my Laptop. It just shows that Device Descriptor Failed, this just happened over night and was only purchased in January. I have tried the TS steps on other topics
but with no Joy. Have tried contacting support to get a repair/Warranty replacement however reached a dead end there as well as can't get through to anything but a Virtual Agent.

    Many Thanks in Advance.

    Kind Regards,

    Donal

    :)

Do you have another PC you can try to use the controller with to test if it works? You might go into device mangager and check under USB Controllers. Uninstall the device, restart Windows and it should reinstall the device.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

Have the same result on another laptop and have uninstalled and restarted a few times with no joy. Just keep getting the same error message appear no matter which port it is plugged into.

    Cheers,

    Xbox Wireless Adapter doesn't work.

I think nothing works. Is there a possibility for it just got useless? (actually the adapter shows as an unknown USB device in device manager)

    Xbox Live Disconnecting

I had a similar problem and this is how I fixed it. You stated that you have a wireless adapter, so I am assuming that your Xbox is not the slim model since the wireless adapter is built in. The original version of the Xbox was designed for the USB port
in the back to be used for two thing's, the wireless adapter and the hard drive transfer cable. Then the Kinect came out, and for those that had the wireless adapter an extension cable was provided so you could plug the adapter in one of the USB ports in the
front. So if you have a Kinect and have your wireless adapter connected to one of the USB ports in the front disconnect the Kinect from the back and connect the wireless adapter to the USB port in the back. Also if you have a USB hub device remove it. Last
but not least try unplugging all USB devices except the wireless adapter in the rear USB port from your Xbox and see if your Xbox stays connected to Xbox live.

Brand new Wireless N adapter gets very hot, malfunctions

It could definitely be an issue with the adapter. Do you have any other usb devices plugged in to the xbox or any other wireless devices in the vicinity (specifically things like wireless speakers or headphones). If possible, I would try exchanging the
    adapter.
