XBox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10/11 is rapidly overheating and shutting down

I bought an official adapter from Microsoft to use with my Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 headset back in February. It worked well for a while, but over the last 2-3 months I have noticed that it is quickly overheating during use, which I can notice because the audio in the headset starts to get choppy. If I don't unplug it and let it cool down for 20-30 seconds, the adapter eventually shuts down altogether and the headset will completely disconnect from the computer until I unplug the device and let it cool. Once it gets to that point, no amount of waiting while the adapter is plugged in will lead to it cooling down and working again--it's almost as if it's still trying to work in the background, but it's just too hot to do anything. Over the past few months I have tried to fix it by disabling Bluetooth on the PC, not allowing the headset to connect to other devices over Bluetooth simultaneously, changing the port it is plugged in to from a lightning-charge USB to lower power (it is all USB 3.0, my PC doesn't have USB 2.0 ports as far as I am aware), and reinstalling the appropriate drivers. However, it has still gotten worse and worse to the point where sometimes the issue happens within seconds of turning on the headset.

    :)

Hope you're doing great today despite this JakeRemmert

Reading everything you shared, It seems that the adapter could be faulty.

Just do discard this possibility, may I know if you tried connecting the adapter to a different computer and try from there to see how it goes?

If you already tried that and the issue persist, sadly the adapter is faulty :c

22H2 Update broke my xbox wireless adapter !!! ( Using Windows 10)

Hello, I'm Felipe and I'm an independent Community Advisor, and I'll do my best to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with your Xbox wireless adapter after the 22H2 update. Here are some steps that you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

Uninstall and reinstall the drivers for the Xbox wireless adapter. To do this, follow these steps:

Press the Windows key + X and select "Device Manager."

Expand the "Network adapters" section and locate the Xbox wireless adapter.

Right-click on the adapter and select "Uninstall device."

Restart your computer and let Windows reinstall the drivers for the adapter.

Make sure that your Xbox controller is updated with the latest firmware. You can update the controller using the Xbox Accessories app on your Windows 10 PC.

Try resetting the Xbox wireless adapter by holding down the bind button (located on the side of the adapter) for 10 seconds until the light on the adapter flashes rapidly. Then, try pairing the controller again.

Check for any interference that might be causing the issue. Try moving the adapter and controller closer to your PC, or remove any other wireless devices that might be causing interference.

If none of these steps work, you may need to contact Microsoft support for further assistance or consider replacing the adapter.
