    Xbox Wireless Adapter dropping connection to Xbox One / Xbox Series X controller (Windows 10)


    Xbox Wireless Adapter (Microsoft Official) began dropping connection to controller.

    • Connection is dropped 1-10 minutes from beginning game. Tested games include Control and Burnout Paradise
    • The controller start blinking xbox light, and usually the game character won't stop walking until the connection is returned, IF it is returned
    • The connection is NOT lost when just idling on desktop
    • The problem has been noticeable when I began playing games via Xbox Game Pass for PC, the connection has been dropped a few times earlier too when playing games via Steam, but it has been so rare I have shrug it off
    What have I tried:

    • Firmware updates on controller
    • Check Windows updates
    • Check updates for Wireless adapter
    • Settings Wireless adapter power management off
    What have I noticed:

    Every time the controller connection is lost, Windows Event viewer shows warning NDIS with Event ID 10400, indicating that the Xbox Wireless Adapter does not respond and has begun resetting.

    Also, is there gonna be a newer version of the wireless adapter for Windows 10 destined for the Series X controller ?

    Xbox Elite Controller 2 will not connect VIA usb or Bluetooth to my pc

    The original XBox Elite controller requires the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 so without that adapter it will not be recognized properly by Windows. The newer, Elite Series 2 can connect to a Windows 10 PC without the need of an adapter.

    Yes, the wireless adapter works and is probably the preferred way to use the controller. Xbox One controllers connected to windows 10 PC's via Bluetooth cause a noticeable performance drop in games. Connect with a wire or the wireless adapter and the performance
    hit is not present. Funny thing is no other Bluetooth controller causes a performance drop in games. It is something specific to the Xbox One controller.

    The Xbox One Wireless controller with Bluetooth can be connected to a Windows 10 PC with a USB cable, Bluetooth, or with the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10, so yes, it can be connected via the adapter. The Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 is not
    compatible with an Xbox 360 controller and will need the Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows. I'll provide the support articles with this information:
