Xbox warranty expired , but I feel like I have been absolutely scammed and robbed

Sorry to hear about your Xbox One being faulty and to answer your question, should Microsoft give you a free warranty repair? I believe no as we all have the same 12 month warranty given to us and we are all bound by the terms and conditions.

I would like to suggest you speak to the retailer you purchased the Xbox from. In the UK we have statutory laws regarding faulty goods and a retailers obligations to consumers which extend far past Microsofts obligations under the warranty. It is worth checking
what consumer laws you have in your country and seeking a remedy via that route. If there are no such laws, then your only option is to consider either paying for a repair or buying a new Xbox One.

I usually buy a two year warranty because things like this happen, but I've had my Xbox One for about 3 years and it hasn't broken yet.

While I agree a year and a half isnt much but that doesnt mean the console is defective. Things break, especially things that are maintained properly. I have my day one xbox that still works fine. I keep it dust free and un a well ventilated spot. Main
reason is dust and heat destroy electronics. You wont see warranties that last over a year. Most normally dont fo past 90 days. Xbox has been known to take care of things that were known issues that were caused by design. My old 360 res ringed after 2 years
and they replaced it for free since it was a known issue and extended that particular problem to a 3 year warranty. Had a PS2 that the disk reader went bad on after 3 months. It became a known issue that was fixed after they designed the newer PS2. Think they
took care of it? Nope. That's why I dont own any of their stuff anymore.

My man, what happened is unfortunate and it truly sucks, and in a perfect world we would not have to pay for such things, but it is standard fare to have rules and restrictions, and we also have options to extend upon them. You had a specified warrany.
It could die the very minute after that warranty expires, and it would be legitimate to charge you for a repair. The fault is not with the company, but with what we know as the Silicone Lottery. Any electronic, any mass produced chipset, can be made to greater
or lesser than par performance. Some processors in computers can overclock and do so well, while others of the same type cant do it at all and burn up with the most minor tweaking. It is an unfortunate but known side effect in electronics that are massed produced,
and cannot be controlled.

Likewise to the specified contract, we as buyers have the option to pay more to get what is called an extended warranty, usually about 60 bucks, and had you done so then you would still be under warranty and within your rights to get a free repair. Sadly, use
of console is irrelevant in comparison of time frame in which console became damaged from purchase. This is all coming from a purely legal perspective, which I know can seem cold and unfeeling, but if you were the business owner and someone wanted to get a
free repair outside their warranty, you would appreciate that such limits are recognized. Now, with all that said, I think that they could make an exception, and I would personally love it if they would, but I cannot agree that they should because without
rules and laws, there is only chaos. If we pick and chose what to follow based off our wants, how does that benefit anyone in the long run?

At first it would not display video at all, and then the next day it would turn on and then turn off 15-20 seconds later.
