Xbox update messed up my external hard drive

My daughters xbox one updated this morning she has an external hard drive and now the xbox one is not recognizing the hard drive all of her games are on there, the last update I had to buy my son a new xbox one s because his after the update would not
load past 50% and now thats 2 xboxes we can’t use its getting to be ridiculous who has money for all these problems can someone help us fix these problems please i’m a single mom and can’t keep buying new consoles

Update: I have an external hard drive, I removed this and downloaded my game to the console. This resolved all my issues. I also noticed a huge lag in the menus when using the hard drive. Maybe the update messed something up with that.

Microsoft, please look into this. The external hard drive is going to be essential to a lot of gamers.

Hi CharityGarcia, I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with an external HDD ... how frustrating!

There's a couple of things I'd suggest at first. I'm sorry if it feels like I'm telling you to 'turn it off and on again' ... but a lot of the time that actually does fix issues!

Try a different USB port for starters, it might be that it's a port problem, or even the reconnection might help 'reidentify' the HDD to the Xbox.

Next I'd recommend a hard power cycle. Turn off your console by holding the Xbox button on the front of the console until it completely turns off. Turn your console back on by pressing the Xbox button on the console/controller. When you do this, the cache
is cleared and some settings are reverted, so this might help you (your game data and saves and stuff is all safe!)

I am having the same problem, My 2 TB Seagate External Hard Drive has been working perfectly fine for me. But I got on my xbox yesterday and saw all my games weren’t installed except for a couple. So I went to the settings and it wasn’t showing up, neither
is the light on the drive itself. I have tried everything it says to try online and nothing has worked. I went to my setting to check when the xbox was last updated and for me it was April 23rd 5:00 PM, I got on my Xbox at around 7:00 PM that day and saw everything
was uninstalled and the drive wasn’t working. I plugged it into my computer to see if it recognized it and it did. It also said it was working perfectly fine. So the console is obviously the problem, and i’ve had this console a while so it’s probably getting
old, but I can’t just spend money on an entirely new Xbox. Please help, I just want to play my games.

Are you using an external hard drive? I formatted mine and took it out now my xbox has no issues, some reason the update screwed up my hard drive

Hi Buddy..

Check to see if you have any hard drive space..

You may need a extra external hard drive.. Clear up some internal hard drive space.

Clear off the games that will re-install later on.

Buy a new External hard drive and transfer a few game to the new drive

I filed up my XBox 360 internal hard drive 500MB I need a external hard drive.

XBox just recently updated my XBox 360 too. I took off the games that is on my XBox One.
