  1. Xbox unable to read media files beyond 2TB in 4TB external HDD

I have a 4TB external HDD plugged onto my xbox one (1TB with 80GB space left). My external HDD is filled up with approx 2TB data. Now the new video files that i add on the external hdd is not being detected by any of the video players in xbox but they are
readable from my PC. The existing video files work fine in the xbox. How to fix the issue?

    :)

I have a Xbox One S with an external Seagate 2tb External HDD used for storage. I recently picked up a 4tb seagate external HDD. I would like to transfer all the data and saved games to the 4tb HDD i just go and use that as storage instead. I am looking
for directions on how to do so.

    Media Player & Xbox One

Has anybody tried plugging a media player with stored files on an external HDD? I am getting my Xbox One at the end of the month and I have a WDTV media player with a 2tb HDD plugged into it.

Would it be worth plugging the WDTV into it? Is there any Xbox One functionality that I can use? I have SKY HD but have read about the 50hz issue, so I will wait on that one. I am not in urgent need for the HDMI slot as it is a straight swap for my 360 but would love to be able to use the Xbox One to search the WDTV for films.

    Hope this makes sense.

    USB Corrupted?

    Hello,

As stated your item is losing life and not performing as wanted. The best option is a 2TB external hard drive as this will be able to cover the 360 (2TB max) and the ONE (4TB can be used). Plus they go on special frequently. 1TB HDD will hold plenty of
360 games and getting cheaper by the day.

After you format the external HDD on the console plug it into the computer and plug the USB into the computer and transfer the files. You may have to check or re-confirm your digital rights (DRM) too.

    Hopefully this helps.

    Good luck & happy gaming.

    External HDD for Media Storage

I have a LaCie Rugged Mini 5TB External Hard Drive Portable HDD that I want to use as a media storage device. I originally had it formatted as NTFS but had the same problem (keep reading). I reformatted it as exFAT but the problem persist. The Xbox Media
Player reads the HDD and most of the files (there are over 3TB of media on it currently). However, in one of the folders it only reads about half of the video files. The files it does not read are the latter half of the files when in alphabetical order. The
files read fine on my PC. Those same files read fine on the Xbox when using a different WD 2TB HDD.

I am convinced it is not the LaCie HDD because the file read fine on my PC and through the USB port on my smart TV. But I prefer to use my Xbox because it reads more codex than my smart TV.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appriciated.
Basically you need a better codec not all codecs arecreated equal and sub codecs you get from non standardized sites may not be the best choice for.non pcs

    Best option

Download super@ and batch run all your videos thru it to xbox format

All movies newly added to my external hard drive won't play on my Xbox one X through the VLC media player or the Microsoft media app.

The media files are either MPEG-4 or MKV. I can confidently say that the issue is not due to file compatibility as I have many other files in those formats that play just fine.

This is the exact issue: I have an external HDD connected to my Xbox with all my media (movies mainly) files that I have saved throughout the years. When you initially connect an external HDD to the Xbox it asks if this is for storing Games/Screen Captures
or if this is for Media playback. In this case media playback is selected and then all the files currently on the HDD will show up and play without issue.

Now here is the issue. After the initial setup and selecting this HDD as media only, any additional files I add to my HDD the Microsoft Media Player as well as VLC will recognize the file/folder depending on how I have it formatted, but:

    1) If the file is not in a folder both programs will recognize the file but will not play it

    or

    2) If the file is in a folder, then when I open the folder the folder is empty.

This is a new issue and has never happened in the past.

One potential temporary solution I thought of, but I don't know how to do it or if it is possible: Can I have the Xbox forget the external HDD (without clearing the HDD obviously) so as to the next time I plug it in it will recognize the external HDD as
a new drive and I can select Games vs Media again? This way after media is selected all my new files will show up as well.

Update: I restarted my Xbox and reselecting the Games vs Media did not work. When trying to play an individual file (of the new files just added, because all my previous files in the same format work just fine)

Update #2: The external HDD I am using is a WD 8TB Easy store. As I stated above all my old files work but none of the new files do. As my issue was not formatting, I dug out my old HDD (a 2TB Seagate) and added my new files to that. All the new files played
normally. The question is.... why are new files not playing on my WD while they play normally on the Seagate. (BTW: Yes both HDD are formatted the same, exFAT). At least for me this appears to be an external HDD issue. I will do one more update after clearing
my WD HDD before adding everything back, but this will take around 1 day.

Update #3: After erasing all media and adding it back to my WD external HDD all files (including the new ones) play as normal.

    Game Drive

If it's Xbox One and online, then they game saves are all cloud based.

I have a 2TB and 4TB external HDD and had them both a few years, with no issues.

If it's in warranty, return it to where you purchased it from. Your games can be redownload onto a new drive.
