    A couple months ago my Xbox started turning off right after I tried turning it on. Everything online I read said it had to be the power supply. So I swapped it out for one I found on Amazon and boy that was a mistake. As soon as I tried to turn it on after I'd installed the new power supply I heard a little "pop" I quickly unplugged it and then disassembled the Xbox again. Once I had the power supply out I cracked it open and the transformer had oil residue all of the place. Icing on the cake. I put it all back together and placed the old power supply back in the Xbox and plugged it back in. USB port still works but it still will only turn on and then right back off. Did I just get a dud with the power supply replacement? Was it ever the power supply or is it something else I've overlooked? Please help!

    USB ports provide a maximum of 5 W, which is covered under the Xbox is powered down state

    However when the system shifts in the gear on a real start up, it cannot provide enough power.

    You had capacitors explode inside of that power supply, and I have to wonder if you have a short inside of your Xbox that killed both of them. It might be time to upgrade

    Just hold in the power button to turn it off and then turn it back on immediately. That resolved the issue for me.

    I don't like to give bad news but everything points to be a hardware issue.
    But we can try to isolate to isolate the problem even more.
    For this, tell me:

    A. Did you tried using a completely different USB cable?
    B. If yes to the above, did you tried connecting the controller to a different device? (PC, other Xbox)
    C. Did you tried using a brand new batteries?

    I’m having the exact same issue, but it persists past reboot. When I turn the console off and wait. Then power it back on the screen immediately says yellow michael and then goes black. The only function that works is long old the Xbox button and it displaces
    the turn off the console or controller screen.

    Unplugging and reseating the power cable brings it back to normal.
