Xbox turns off during restart of update

No, it is not normal for your Xbox to turn itself on in the middle of the night. And for the cutting off during an update sometimes the Xbox needs to restart during an update so that is normal, but if it is turning off and not restarting during an update
that is not normal.

Please try this:

A. Power cycle your console
1. Turn off your console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds, until it shuts down completely.
2. Unplug the console's power cable from the console and from the power outlet. Wait 5 minutes.
Important: Be sure to wait at least 5 minutes. This step resets the power supply.
3. Plug the console power cable back in.
4. Press the Xbox button on your console to turn it on.

After that, try doing the update again

B. Can be a bit odd but try connecting the console to a different power socket / in another room

C. If you’re not using an insider build, perform an offline update for your console.

To be honest I will suggest not turning off your PC or Xbox console during any update and modification process. Moreover, As you have already done restart I hope for good always.

My xbox does have ventilation. It turns on. It's when the xbox is restarting during the update that it isn't turning back on, on its own like it's supposed and not finishing the update

It doesn't mess up the Xbox if you turn it off during the update??
