    XBox stops recognising controller inputs

I'll try and be as specific here as I can, as I've seen some similar threads.

So, upon start up, things work perfectly fine. I'm able to use the controllers with zero issue. The big problem I've been having pops up after my wireless controller goes to sleep. Once I turn it back on, nothing works at all. No home button, nothing. I
tried plugging the controller in to fix it, but that doesn't help. I've tried using wired controllers, and those don't work either.

I tried a soft reset earlier, and that too seems to have had no effect. The only thing that does work, it turning the xbox off and back on again. At this point, I've also noticed that after waiting a few minutes, the XBox will make it's power down noise
again. And the XBox cannot be turned on again before this second beep.

    I'm at a loss here.

EDIT: To add a little more info, I've also noticed that my wireless controller won't turn off after shutting the XBox down. The light just stays on and won't power off until I take the battery out.

    :)

    XBox stops recognising controller inputs

    Hello, sgRed

I read over your concern. You mentioned you had done a soft reset. I would suggest you do a hard reset to try and fix your problem.

Then I would proceed further with Unplugging the power cable. I provided the instructions below on step by step, to do a hard reset and to unplug the power cord.

    1. Turn off your console by holding the Xbox button on the front of the console for approximately 10 seconds. The console will turn off.
    2. Turn your console back on by pressing the Xbox button on the console or the Xbox button  on your controller.

If you don't see the green boot-up animation when the console restarts, repeat these steps. Make sure that you hold the power button until the console completely shuts down.

Important If your console is in instant-on power mode, the above steps will shut the console off completely. Instant-on mode, or the ability to turn on your console by saying "Xbox on," won't be enabled until you restart the console.

    1. Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 10 seconds.
Important Be sure to wait at least 10 seconds. This step resets the power supply.
    2. Plug the console power cable back in.
    3. Press the Xbox button  on your console to turn it on.

    Hello, sgRed

Sorry to hear the problem still persists. Since we have the console with a fresh reset, Let's try an apply an update to your controller.

    To update your controller try these steps;

    Update via Wireless

An Xbox Wireless Controller purchased in or after June 2015 can take updates wirelessly without connecting with a USB cable. This controller has a small, circular 3.5-mm port on the bottom of the controller
(controllers without this port must update via USB cable).

    1. If you have a stereo headset adapter, plug it into the bottom of your controller so it can also get updates.
    2. If you're using a stereo headset adapter, plug in a headset (a headset must be plugged in so the adapter will turn on).
    3. Press the Xbox button  to open the guide, choose System > Settings > Devices & streaming > Accessories, and then select the controller
      you want to update.
    4. Select Device info, select the Firmware version box, and then select Continue.

    Things to keep in mind

    • The auto-detect feature of this update may not work immediately if you plugged your stereo headset adapter into the controller while downloading a system update, or while the console was turned off. To fix this, go to the Home screen and unplug the
adapter. Then, plug the adapter back into the controller.
    • You only need to update your controller one time to use the stereo headset adapter. However, if you plan to use the stereo headset adapter with other Xbox One controllers, you’ll need to follow this process for each controller. Additionally, check
for new updates periodically as Xbox frequently ships new controller features and improvements.

    Update via USB

    1. If you have one, plug the stereo headset adapter into the bottom of your controller so it can also get updates.
    2. If you're using a stereo headset adapter, plug in a headset (a headset must be plugged in so the adapter will turn on).
    3. Plug the included USB cable into the port on the left side of the console, around the corner from the disc tray. For Xbox One X and Xbox One S, the USB port is on the front under the Power button.
    4. Plug the other end of the USB cable into the top of the controller.

    1. Instructions to install the update should automatically appear. Follow the instructions, and don’t disconnect the USB cable while the update is in progress. The process can take up to 3 minutes. If instructions to install the update don’t automatically
appear, you can start the process manually. To do this, press the Xbox button  to open the guide, choose System > Settings > Devices & streaming > Accessories,
and then select the controller you want to update. Select Device info, select the Firmware version box, and then select Continue.

Sorry, just to clarify, we're using the "soft reset" term differently. I mean I went through the settings, console info, and clicked the "Reset Console" option (while keeping my installed software). The problem persisted even after this.

Can I map the microsoft adaptive controller for PC gaming?

Hi . My name is Kyle and I'm an independent advisor.

Steam should recognise it as a standard Xbox controller, and accept inputs based on what was mapped in the Xbox Accessories app.

Go into your Steam settings, go to Controller, and ensure 'Enable Steam Input for Xbox controllers' is enabled. From there, it should work in almost any game.

how do i disable windows recognizing xbox 360 controller as xbox 360 controller

This in itself is not exactly a problem, the alternative would be to have it recognised as a generic controller which wouldn't work in most PC games. The best solution for compatibility is to emulate Xbox controller input.

If you're experiencing issues connecting, make sure you haven't installed any 3rd party apps or drivers that could interfere with the connectivity. Also, does the controller connect with a cable?
