Xbox start up is really slow.

Over the past few weeks my xbox seems to be getting slower for starting up. Once it's on and running it take a few minutes to then load what ever game or app i want to use which is also slower than it was previously. Once you have chosen a app or game and have it running its fine. If I go out of one and onto another one it's fine. Get the green xbox start up screen and can take up to 5 minutes to load onto the home screen. It just seems to be when I start it up it's slow then the longer it's in use it's like oh right I'm up n running no issue. Reminds me a lot of my teenager. Forever to wake up but once they awake its fine.

It's just something you are going to have to deal with.

The dashboard loads a lot slower because of all the content that needs to download, all those boxes need to be filled with something. You can test this by disconnecting your Xbox 360 from the Internet and then restarting your console, it will almost immediately
load into the dashboard since it doesn't have to download anything to load up the dashboard.

You may want to clear your xbox cache.

You may also want to consider deleting things off of your xbox. Lack of memory may be causing the problem.

Yes, this has been affecting many people.

Depending on what xbox you use, there is a possible fix.

The how and why of how this works is strange, and it wont work on the 4 GB slim.

Anyway....

Remove your hard drive, and turn on the console without it.

When prompted for an update, as it shouldn't have the update now without the HD, decline it and let the console finish powering up in an offline state.

Properly shut down your console.

Return the HD to it's proper spot, and reboot the system. Give it it's full go firing up and connecting to live.

This isn't a fully confirmed fix for everyone, but many have done it and have had it resolve the dashboard problem.

WarMachine has a good suggestion here. To start things off, let's try deleting and redownloading the profile. Here's some guides/steps on how to do that (if you need them):

Delete your profile ONLY (do NOT delete profile and items).
Clear your system cache.
Restart your console.
Download your profile.
