    Xbox shuts off after a few hours?


    The last couple days my Xbox one S has been turning off on its own. I was playing on my pc with a twitch stream running on my xbox. I briefly saw a pop up saying console will shut off in 5 minutes or something like that. Then later on I was watching tv (which runs through my xbox) and it turned off again after couple hours. This due to a new update? Did my settings somehow change?

    Can you leave the battery on the quick charge kit for a long period of time after charging?

    As long as you see it shut off after a few hours it should be fine. I had one where it didn't shut off and the battery became quite warm. RMA'ed it and it was fine afterward.

    That appeared to be temporary at best. When I tried to go to the My Apps and Games menu, it was blank and I couldn't get it to switch back to TV. This was only about 5-10 minutes after the successful reboot. I tried the power supply reset. No good.
    Now there's something really weird. The amber light is on the power supply despite it not being plugged in to either the wall or the Xbox.

    I tried both suggestions. I tried the reset, on the console, but I'm not sure anything happened since the light was off the whole time. The console had been off for a while, so it wasn't warm, but I blew out the dust with an air can. I also did the
    power supply reset. It booted, but it ended up in a frozen state. I got the "Hi" message with my name and then got an incomplete screen. I could see the name of the last game I played, but no image. Trying to access the menu from a button on the controller
    just dimmed the screen. Pressing again undimmed the screen.

    I powered off again and the problem occurred again. I only did the power supply reset and also plugged into a different outlet. Now it booted normally. I haven't tried playing a game, but I can now watch cable TV through the HDMI pass through

    Your Xbox is probably overheating. It will be good to clean it at least from dust. Either give him a cleanup or service.
