Xbox Series X Wireless Controller Only Charging to 15% On PC

Hello, my Xbox Series X Wireless Controller recently started only charging up to 15% when I plug it into my PC. I do not own an actual console to troubleshoot on there. Additionally, the controller will not work wirelessly when the battery charge goes below 10% which is basically always now since it can only hold a 15% charge. Once the controller goes below 10% it says it connects and disconnects instantly on my PC. When trying to reconnect, the Xbox Logo will blink twice when i and then just turns off again and again...

In short, you can't. Unlike Xbox One or Series X|S controllers, the 360 wireless controllers are always wireless. The Play & Charge kit simply charges the battery, it does not send data.

The only way to use an 360 wireless controller on a PC is via an Xbox 360 gaming receiver for Windows.

I suspect you're attempting to connect an Xbox 360 wireless controller to your PC using a Play & Charge cable? Effectively making it a wired controller?

I'm afraid this won't work. Unlike Xbox One/Series X controllers, wireless 360 controllers are always wireless, connecting a Play & Charge simply charges the battery or powers the controller if no battery is present. Unfortunately the cable doesn't send data.

The only way to connect these controllers to a PC is via an Xbox 360 gaming receiver. The receiver for Xbox one controllers is not compatible.

I have not seen this behavior with Xbox Controller (I use removable batteries), but, my guess is

a) either the rechargeable batteries are dead (and you should get the batteries inside replaced)

b) the charging system inside the controller is dead (if under warranty, you should be able to get a replacement, or time to spring for a new controller)

c) just to be on the safer side, you could try using a different charging cable, so that you know the cable is not faulty.

Thanks for your response. Fortunately, I tried something that someone else recommended. I just let the battery charge completely drain until the controller's Xbox logo wouldn't even flash if I held it down. Then, I just charged it the same way I was and... it worked! Seems like everything is working like it should. If anything happens in the future, I will probably try to get a replacement under warranty like you recommended.

Is the controller a wireless controller or wired? If it is wireless, how are you connecting it? If by using the play & charge kit, then the Xbox 360 controller will not work, as the cable is only recognized on PC for charging only. You need to use a Xbox
360 Wireless adapter for PC to connect a wireless Xbox 360 controller to your PC.
