Xbox Series X suddenly started shutting down randomly

Hi, my series x seems to have suddenly developed an intermittent shutting down issue. There is no pattern to it, so it can be immediately on power up or more likely it can be an hour or more into a game, but either way it's the same and the screen goes green and the xbox turns off. It then won't start using the controller button. Forza 5 seems especially prone, but it's done the same in most other games at some point.

So I'm inclined to think the system is going bad, but it is very random. My xbox is nearly out of warranty which is concerning. If I send the system in for repair, what I don't want is it to come back with no fault found. I just thought I'd ask whether a recent system update could be responsible before I look to request a return. For the record, it has been fully reset twice and sits on a desk in a well ventilated space. Thanks, Matt

I’ve not heard of any issues with the last update ( unless you are on an insider version). I personally would get it sent back and replaced asap. I would also speak to support to add that it powers off at different times and it’s just intermittent

Hey i use to have that problem on my xbox one s. Ur xbox wasnt able to update completely. Thats why my didnt work so the only way i could get it work was turning on the xbox with my phone using the xbox app and updating it there on the xbox app i dont remember 100 how to do it but i saw a video on you tube on it. It worked fine after that maybe repeated the procedure 1 or 2 more times after counsole updates. I dont remember but i also did a console hard reboot.

Hi there, no the console isn't on the insider program. I'also have the console directly connected to the wall (though honestly, we all know that can't make a difference can it!!) and I don't have any external devices connected.

I gamed for several hours on Monday thinking the problem had some how gone away, but yesterday after 20 minutes, green screen and the Xbox shutdown again and then wouldn't start

So it look like faulty hardware I guess?

Unfortunately, it sounds like your console's problem might be hardware-related.

If you don't mind, I'd appreciate it if you answer the following questions:

• Is your console enrolled in the Xbox Insider program?

• Do you have any external devices plugged into your console?

• Is your console plugged directly into one of the wall's outlets?

As for issues with a recent update, Xbox Support has confirmed an issue that was causing games to crash; however, there is no mention of consoles shutting down completely.
