Xbox Series X "Something went wrong error code E100

hello all,

I am assuming there is nothing more I can do at this point and I will have to send my console in for a repair but I would like to try and see if there is anything else I can do.

Back in July, my xbox ran into a problem where it was unable to complete the update and gave me the something went wrong error code. I attempted to retry the update and even did an offline update but with no luck. it would get to the "applying update" part and just fail. I then tried to restore it while keeping my games installed but had no luck with that. then I did the complete restore and after a few attempts of that, it worked!

Fast forward to a couple days ago, I ran into the exact same problem. I went through all the same steps I did last time and eventually it worked. This time, however, It gives me an error everytime I turn my xbox off. I did not even do a hard turn off it just went into sleep mode and when I woke it up, it gave me the error and said it was attempting another update even though it literally completed the update an hour before.

Like I said, I understand this is likely a drive problem but if you have any suggestions, I am all ears.

I am sorry to hear you are facing this issue!

In such cases, especially with the E100, there is only one solution which is performing an offline update.

A factory reset might also do the job, but if that doesn't work, I am afraid your console will have to be serviced!

Yeah for some reason, the offline update gives the same results. appreciate the assistance
