Xbox series X|S alternative high speed storage expansion

I've been looking into getting a new storage expansion device that's high speed as I've filled up my SSD storage on the series s and I can't use my external hard drive for series X|S optimised games since it's too slow. I've been thinking about getting the seagate storage expansion cards for the series X|S, but they're quite pricey so I was wondering, instead of getting that, could I use an external M.2 SSD enclosure (like the ROG Strix Arion) and put an SSD inside that to use, and will it be able to run the series X|S optimised games?

Hi,

No, sorry it won't work. The USB ports on the Series X|S are USB 3.1 which have a maximum speed of 500MB/s. This means, no matter what drive you buy, no matter what speed it's rated at, you're stuck at the max speed of the USB port.

The only drives that can be used for Series X|S games are either the internal or the storage expansion card.

I have the Expansion card for my Series X. I also have an external 2TB USB SSD in an enclosure. I can only use the external SSD for Xbox One games. They do load a lot faster than a mechanical hard drive, but I can't play my Series X games off it.

No as you would be limiting the stick to USB speeds of 500mbps and behind 4 bottlenecks

Both Series X/S games and Xbox One games that been optimised (I'm British) for Series X/S must be installed on either the internal storage or the expansion card. They can not be run from a USB connected storage device. My optimised Series X/S Xbox One games
were moved to my Expansion card during their update.

Xbox Series X|S games can not be run from USB storage devices. These drives are too slow for Series X|S games, regardless of them being on Game Pass or not.

Series X|S games can only be played on either the Internal SSD, a Seagate Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S or the WD_BLACK C50 Expansion Card for Xbox
