Xbox Series X - PDP Media Remote Volume Control

    Hello,

I recently upgraded from the Xbox One X to the Series X earlier this month. In the same time, I have decided to cut the cord on cable and only go with streaming services. The Series X will be my hub for everything, since it is what everyone in the household is used to.

In order to make things easier, and not have remotes and controllers, I decided to purchase the Microsoft licensed PDP Media Remote that is specific for the Series X/S.

Out of the box, it worked, however the volume up/down does not work. CEC was already turned on (both Xbox and TV) and confirmed that it work since the TV goes on/off whenever the Xbox does. The volume controls just don't seem to work. I have looked online (which I guess I should have done before) and it seems to be a common problem with anyone upgrading to the Series X.

What is Microsoft's stance on getting this fixed? It is disappointing that I have upgraded to a better machine, but it cannot do things that the One X did.

    :)

well the question that needs to be asked is whether it is the implementation of CEC on the TV or the Xbox that is the root of the problem.

In my experience I turn off CEC on every device because of all the problems that it causes in general

I used to recommend that people invest in things like harmony remotes that learn macros, and produce the same results with none of the compatibility issues. Sadly they stopped making those, and alternatives are expensive
I wish I knew 100% what the answer was. However, searching various sites and everyone having the same problem, I would say the root of the cause is the Series X. Not everyone will have the same TV, but everyone has the same Xbox. That's just my theory with it.

I go back to that CEC works fine in the other aspect that I use it with, turning on/off the TV when the Xbox does. So (on my setup) I have confirmed that CEC works, EXCEPT for the volume.

I understand that there may be alternatives, however, this is the one remote that is licensed by Microsoft and yet does not work to 100% of what it claims.

So again, I ask if anyone has a solution for the problem.

Cannot get Xbox to control TV

    Hi,

As I said, I'm using the PDP media remote for Xbox One. I am trying to program that remote to control the volume and on/off on my TV. However, since all of the settings are configured through the Xbox itself, the fact that its a third party remote (that's
officially licensed by Microsoft) should be irrelevant.

Using PDPgaming Media remote on XBOX Series X console. Remote will not perform HDMI switch when using HDMI-CEC function. XBOX gaming remotes "paired" to console will perform the switch.

Thank you for contact us! I'm Anderson, an Independent Consultant and a Microsoft user like you.

    good evening

It sounds like the PDP gaming media remote may not be fully compatible with the Xbox Series X console when it comes to HDMI-CEC function. One solution may be to try pairing the remote directly to the television, rather than the console, to see if that resolves the issue. Another option would be to check if the remote has any firmware updates available and ensure that it's running the latest version. If none of these solutions work, it's likely that the PDP gaming media remote is not designed to perform the HDMI switch function with the Xbox Series X. In this case, you may need to use an Xbox gaming remote that is specifically designed to work with the console.
