    Xbox Series X not detecting external hard drive


    I have a Seagate external hard drive that I have been using with my Xbox Series X. I had no problems until yesterday, when the drive was no longer detected by the Xbox. I've tried all the recommended fixes, like restarting the console, changing the cord, and changing the power settings, but none have worked. I even downloaded the Seagate Seatools app to try and to test it and see if there is a fix. It was detected just fine by the seatools app, and all the tests I ran told me nothing was wrong. I also tried using a second hard drive to plug into the console and that hard drive was detected just fine. Is there any fix I can apply so I can use my hard drive again? Even if I have to completely wipe the drive and redownload everything, I just want to be able to use my hard drive that I spent money on.

    How to transfer xbox one games to series x?

    You should be able to do that, yes:

    "Power down your Xbox One.

    1. Unplug the external drive.
    2. Connect the external drive to your Xbox Series X, S.
    3. Power on your Xbox Series X, S.
    4. Wait for the external drive to be detected. This may take a couple of minutes.
    5. When the drive is detected, you are free to copy any games you want onto the Xbox Series X, S internal storage."

    Do you still have your Xbox One and does your external hard drive still work on that console?

    I have successfully connected both my Seagate 'Game Drive' and my external SSD USB 3.0 drives to my Series S without any problems. All my installed games show up fine.

    The Series X/S supports the same external drives as the Xbox One/S/X support. If your drive isn't being detected it's probably become corrupted or has a hardware issue.

    If your game is now a Series X optimised title, it can no longer be played off an external hard drive. It must be moved to either the internal storage or an optional expansion card.

    External USB hard drives are too slow to play Series X optimised games. None Series X games will still run from your external drive. The internal storage in the Series X is a fast NVME SSD. These drives are several times faster than mechanical hard drives.

    Hi,

    External hard drives are not fast enough for Xbox Series X|S titles. Unfortunately you can't play these games off slow USB external hard drives. They need either be installed internally or to an optional Xbox Series X|S Expansion card.
