Xbox Series X has glitchy/stuttering audio with headphones when on a menu, or in an app...

My Xbox Series X randomly started having glitchy or stuttering audio issues a few months ago, but only on menus, but now i realized that it effects apps as well (like Spotify, YouTube, etc) however games are not effected at all unless the Xbox guide is open.

It also only affects headphone audio, Andy monitor speakers sound just fine. I’ve tried both Windows Sonic and stereo uncompressed, and changed many audio settings, but it never fixed it. The headphones also work normally on other devices, it’s only my Xbox when on menus and apps.

My Xbox and controller is up-to-date, and it is enrolled in the insider program, if that’s important. I believe this started right after an update was installed on my Xbox, however I’m not certain because it was a while ago

don't tell me to reset my console or do a hard reset I've already tested everything and it solves the problem for 1 hour or two and then the same problem starts again.... note that if I use a wired controller I have no problem

    Thank ️

    :)

Trouble Connecting Arctis 9X headset to Xbox series X

Hello Carl,my name is Marvina, I will be happy to help you.

I am very sorry for what you are going through, based on the information you have provided, it seems that the problem is related to the configuration of the headphones.

Your headset may not be set up correctly to use the microphone with your Xbox series X.

I've seen this problem before and there are a couple of things you can try to fix it:

Check that the headphones are updated with the latest firmware. You can download the latest firmware from the SteelSeries website.

Check that the headset is properly connected to the Xbox series X. Make sure the headset is turned on and in pairing mode.

Check your Xbox series X sound settings. Make sure your headset is selected as the audio input and output device.

Reset the headphones. You can reset the headphones by pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds.

Here are some specific steps you can try:

    Update headset firmware

    Go to the SteelSeries website.

    Click the "Support" menu.

    Click "Product Updates."

Look for the Arctis 9X headphones.

Click the "Download" button to download the latest firmware.

Once the firmware has downloaded, follow the installation instructions.

    Check the headphone connection

Make sure the headphones are turned on.
Press and hold the pairing button on the headphones for 5 seconds.

On Xbox series X, go to Settings > System > Accessories > Headphones & Microphones.

    Select Arctis 9X headphones.

If the headphones are connected correctly, you will see a message that says "Connected."
    Check your sound settings

On Xbox series X, go to Settings > System > Accessories > Headphones & Microphones.
    Select Arctis 9X headphones.

In the "Audio input" section, make sure headphones are selected as the input device.

In the "Audio Output" section, make sure headphones are selected as the output device.

    Reset the headphones

Press and hold the power button on the headphones for 10 seconds.

The headphones will turn off and then turn on again.

If you have tried all of these steps and are still having problems, you can contact SteelSeries support. They can help you solve the problem.

These are basic solutions to these problems, but they can lead to a solution, remember that this is a public forum where we are players like you who want to help, good luck and happy day.

    Sincerely,
    Marvina.

    Xbox Remote Play Stuttering

    Hello Fernando.

Sorry for the late reply, but none of those options on the website work. I recently changed wifi providers and even that didn't help with the audio stuttering. Even deleting the app off my phone and reinstalling it doesn't help.

Edit: On top of the stutter, audio has now just been disappearing entirely for no reason and only comes back when I restart the app.

Xbox Wireless Headphone in-game audio stutter, choppiness and de-sync

    Hi Nursemorph,

    Thank you for your response.

I did the following test with gears 5 (Act 1 Chapter 2 beginning:)

    1. Wired connection my Xbox One Elite Controller (1st gen) into Xbox. Audio stutter in game cut scene does not occur

    2. Wired connection Xbox Series Controller into Xbox. Audio stutter in game cut scene does not occur

    3. Wireless connection Xbox Series Controller into Xbox. Audio stutter happens. However, by moving the joystick (i.e. making it response and not being idle), the audio stutter stops and works normally until controller is left idle for like 10 sec (based on my rough calculation), the stutters comes back.

As such, the response provided by you matches against my issue.

The in-game cut scene i tested so far with this issue was:

    1. Gears 5

    2. Star Wars Fallen Order

Therefore, is there a way to file the report to Microsoft so that a firmware patch can be put through to fix this? I don't want other people who bought this headphone for in-game experience to be ruin by this.

Again, thank you so much for the help. At least there is a temporary work around for the time being instead of needing to sent for a replacement.

Whenever i launch up any cod through the xbox app my audio quailty goes really low and all glitchy.

Hi there! This is Virginia O.

I understand that you are experiencing low and glitchy audio when launching COD through Xbox App.

I apologize for the inconvenienced this has caused you. I will do my best to help you.

Please disable Windows' communications audio adjustments by right-clicking the speaker icon in your taskbar and select Sounds. Go to the Communications tab and choose Do nothing. Click Apply, then OK.

And then check your audio device settings. Open Sound Settings and check which device is being used. If you see options like “Headphones –Hands-Free AG Audio” and “Headphones – Stereo,” ensure that you select the stereo option. You can also disable the hands-free profile from the Device Manager if you don’t use it.

If you do not need your Microsoft, you can disable it because Windows switches to a lower-quality mode when it detects an active microphone. Disable your mic in Sound Settings or Device Manager to see if that stabilizes the audio.

Next is to update audio drivers and the Xbox App. Please make sure that your audio drivers are up to date by visiting your device manufacturer’s website. And for the Xbox App ensure that it is updated to the latest version.

Then disable the Xbox overlay and check if the audio improves.

    Thank you for your cooperation.
