    Xbox series X - from hdmi 2.1 TO displayport 1.4 for 4k @ 120 fps

Hey guys, this one is not a question BUT an answer to the (to me wrongly closed) thread here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...lay-port/778f2bd7-6f7f-4ba2-9cc2-7a7599e9e6df with everyone complaining about the limited connectivity options of current Xbox series X to achieve to holy grail of 4k @ 120 fps resolution.

    Is it possible ? YES.

SOOO there ARE options for this. I have seen:

1- converters FROM hdmi 2.1 TO display port 1.4 (4k @ 120 fps) - rare at the time of this writing

2- cables FROM hdmi 2.1 TO display port 1.4 (4k @ 120 fps) - the difference is, those cables need some external power source (usb cable included for that) - even more difficult to find for me

3- I also suspect some switches are available where you can get input from different sources, including hdmi 2.1, to various outputs, for example usb-c and dp 1.4.

For item 1 I found this one, from Club 3D: https://tinyurl.com/4ppjnut4

For item 2 (to me the best, because you only need one cable, not the cable + the adapter, which might affect display quality / cause connectivity issues), this one from an unknown company to me, but with pretty good reviews: https://tinyurl.com/yckr5thn

So, finally there is hope !

For those like me having a super good monitor for that use case that supports 4k @ 144hz (Asus ROG Swift PG43UQ), it's the perfect fix for this problematic downgrade to 60 hz...

Also, there is an option 4- that might be helpful, some of you might have monitors that only support usb-c input (aka thunderbolt 4 if I remember well), my take is, some of those exists out there, and it also requires some complex hardware built inside the cable/adapter/switch to convert the signal and also an external power source to allow this.

Anyway, I hope that helps, I wasted MANY hours looking for a suitable solution so I can plug my xbox series X to my 144hz 4k screen. To me the best is to have a single cable, less noise and moving parts, potentially less latency as well, depending...

    Cheers !

    :)

    HDMI 2.1 to DP 1.4

There's no HDMI 2.1 to Displayport 1.4 adaptors available as of yet,

There are Displayport 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adaptors available, but the signal only goes one direction and the Series X does not have a Displayport,

also with adaptor you run the risk of getting higher latency input, lower refresh rate, poor image quality,

for a clean bandwidth signal, it's best to connect straight HDMI to HDMI or Displayport to Displayport.

    Hello!

For 4K TVs, I think 120 hz with 2.0 hdmi is the maximum that the system will request. Now, for 8K TVs, 144hz with hdmi 2.1 it is necessary. So do not worry.
    Hdmi 2.0 can only support 4K at 60hz or 1440p ( 2K ) at 120hz, Hdmi 2.1 will allow 4K at 120hz.

I'm also hoping that the console has a Displayport 1.4, for 4K at 120hz to use on 4K 144hz monitors

Hi and thanks for reaching Microsoft Xbox gamer's community. My name is Josef.

Hope you're doing great today Singularet

Thanks for sharing this workaround, but keep in mind that this can lead to other problems while gaming with your series X or may not work in the future due to an Xbox OS update

To a degree you don't need a tv that supports HDMI 2.1 to play supported games 120 FPS.

I bought a 4k/HDR LG tv about three years ago and it's HMDI 2.0 but it doesn't support 120FPS at 4k but if I went into the settings of my Xbox Series S and X and changed the resolution from 4k to 1080p I can then set FPS to 120 as my consoles tell me I can play 120 FPS games at 1080p.

    HDMI 2.1, 4K 144hz Gaming Monitor's for Xbox Series X

The spec's of the LG 27GN950 monitor has been revealed and the monitor will only have HDMI 2.0, which now makes it useless for the Xbox Series X as it will only allow it to run the display at 4K 60Hz over HDMI 2.0, than the 4K 120Hz that can be done over
    HDMI 2.1.

I've now abandoned the LG monitor for not having HDMI 2.1, and I'm now looking towards getting the EVE monitor.

The EVE SPECTRUM is now the only choice at the moment as a 4K 144hz monitor with HDMI 2.1 and it will be perfect for the Series X to get 4K at 120Hz.
None of that makes a much of a difference as you WON'T be playing any AAA games at 4K at 120 FPS. A 4K 120Hz display won't make a blind bit of difference if a game is locked at 60 fps. And many of the launch games will still be 30 fps games.
