Xbox Series X Fan Broken?

My new Series X arrived and I decided to start out with just setting it outside of my entertainment center on the hardwood floor with nothing around it just to make sure it all worked. About two minutes after I started the console up, the fan began running
at what seems like 100% and would not stop. I waited until the setup process was complete and it still didn't stop. After playing a few Xbox One games, the fan still would not stop so I decided to reset the factory defaults and that still didn't fix the problem.

Was I just sent an Xbox Series X with a broken temperature reader? How do I go about getting a replacement since local stores are all sold out?

Microsoft support has been unhelpful as there doesn't seem to be a way to talk to a real person that actually works at Microsoft at the moment.

I bought it from a store, and they have been responsive but essentially told me that they're out of stock until further notice so I can return it but I can't get a new one.

I'll try going down the automated chat again and see what I can get. Thank you for your response!

Where did you buy from? If you ordered from Microsoft they should be able to arrange a replacement. If it was from a store i suspect you are out of luck until stocks come back in.

Best way to get to MS at the moment seems to be to use the 'virtual assistant' chat option and just play it through until the end of the chat gets to 'did this solve your problem' then just say no and wait for a call back.

which Xbox do you have? Xbox one X or Xbox series X? They are different things. Series X has the fan on one end of the rectangle

So, I recently noticed that my Xbox Series X fan runs loud when playing Series X|S / Optimised for Series X|S games specifically.

It’s quite strange as it’s dead quiet every other time, but as soon as I start a Series X|S game, the fan becomes so loud that I need to turn up the tv volume.. it’s quite distracting.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions?

FYI - My Series X is a pre-order/launch day model.. and it sits in an open and well ventilated tv/entertainment stand*

In comparison, I owned an Xbox One S for three years and I never heard the fan on that.

I’m having the exact same problem now. The only time my Xbox sounds loud is when running series x enhanced games, it’s completely fine on old gen games. Have you had this issue fixed or is it still a problem now?

If the fan is not working probably something inside your console is broken.

The best option right now is request a repair order for your Series X, in that way Microsoft is going to inspect it and change the faulty component
