XBOX SERIES X EXGTERNAL DRIVES

Greetings friends, I have a Seagate 2TB drive that has been used for the Series X since Day 1 and it's been full for some time now, I now have a WD 4TB.

I want to transfer the data from the Seagate 2TB to the WD 4TB using windows 11 so it's nice, fast and clean. Both have been properly formatted with the XBOX.

HOWEVER.

i plug them into windows 11 but they do not get assigned a drive letter, both show in the device manager, but not under Mass storage devices. Now, if I format the WD 4TB on windows it works fine, I can use the WD drive Utility tool. Since they have been formatted for user with XBOX only, is there not a XBOX driver or another way to do this?

Xbox uses a different format file, this is compatible only with Xbox consoles, this is why you're not able to see the files and the drive as a regular one on file explorer

And it's the same in the opposite way, basically is for security and anti-piracy policies

Your drive will work the same on Series X as it does on Xbox One and you won't need to format it.

However, Series X games or Xbox One games with Series X enhancements will not run from that drive and will either need to be installed internally or to an external SSD designed for Series X/S.

Your hard drive will be too slow for Series X games. They can be stored there, but not run from there.

Xbox Series X games / upgrades / updates has to be installed onto the Series X internal or expansion card SSD,

You can have Xbox One games on your external hard drive that will get an Series X upgrade but the games will need to be transferred to the Series X and then the Series X upgrade will need to be downloaded onto the Series X SSD,

As an example...

I have Marvel Avengers on my external hard drive that will get the Series X upgrade and I will transfer the game over to the Series X SSD ready to download and update the game to the Series X version when available.

series x has disc drive and the series s does not

smart delivery is so it downloads the content for the specific console

hence why the game case has series x and xbox one advertised on it. the disc can be used in series x and xbox one consoles, the series s does not have a drive therefore requires digital purchase.

I am also using a WD Black P50 (NVMe SSD 2TB) with my Xbox Series X and It works just great on last generation games. Make sure to plug the drive into your Xbox Series X and then format the SSD drive for games (you also have the option to format it for media). The drive must be formatted using your Xbox Series X (NOT a PC). Happy gaming .
