Xbox Series X Controller - Paired But then won't connect - please help

    Hi Everyone,

I have recently purchased the xbox series x and am using the controller that comes with the console. everything has paired and worked fine for the first few days, now it feels like every other time I turn the xbox on and then turn my controller on the controller
    doesnt connect and just flashes

the controller has not been paired with any other device

    the xbox is instant on

the controller is up to date on firmware

i tied to pair as per usual instruction

the only way I get it to work so far is to pull the power from the xbox once it is off or a hard restart taking away the speed of being able to start gaming

has anyone else come across this issue?

can anyone suggest some steps to try Xbox Series X Controller - Paired But then won't connect - please help :)

    thanks

    Matt

    :)

Xbox Series X Controller - Paired But then won't connect - please help

    Hi mev27,

This issue has been around since last generation. One thing I had work for me was to try to pair using the buttons. Then connect it via the USB cable. Make sure they are paired.

Shut down your Xbox completely (Full Shutdown option in power menu or hold down the power button for a few seconds).

After that, remove power cable from the back of your xbox for about 30 seconds.

Plug the power back in then try and power on the xbox using the controllers Xbox button.

This weird arcane method has worked in the past, not sure why, but with luck that may resolve your issues.

Controller keeps disconnecting during gameplay on Xbox Series X

Hi there! This is Virginia O.

I understand that you are experiencing issues with your controller being disconnected in the middle of gameplay.

I apologize for the inconvenienced this has caused you. I will do my best to help you.

Please re-pair the Controller by turning off your Xbox and the controller.

    Turn the console back on.

On the controller, press and hold the pairing button (the small round button on the top of the controller) until the Xbox button starts flashing.

Press the pairing button on the Xbox Series X (located on the front of the console) to re-pair the controller.

And then update the controller's firmware. Kindly connect the controller to the Xbox Series X with a USB cable.

Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

Go to Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories.

Select the controller and choose "Update."

Next is to check for wireless interference:

Other wireless devices (e.g., Wi-Fi routers, other Bluetooth devices) could be causing interference with your Xbox controller's signal.

Please your Xbox to a different location, away from large wireless devices or metal objects. Ensure that there are no physical obstructions between the console and controller.

If the issue persist after performing the troubleshooting steps kindly use a wired connection by connecting the controller to the console with a USB cable.

This can help determine if the issue is related to the wireless connection.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

Series S|X controller forgetting Bluetooth pairing after charging on dock

Hi, I hope you're doing great out there despite the issue that you're experiencing. I am an Independent advisor and I am here to help you in regards to your concern.

The Xbox Wireless Controller that comes with Xbox Series X|S includes a feature that allows for quickly switching between a paired Bluetooth device and an Xbox console. If the controller is connected to a Bluetooth device, double-press the Pair button, and the controller will immediately switch its connection to the last Xbox console it was paired to.

Xbox One Controller keeps rapidly connecting and disconnecting on windows 11

i just had the same (or very similar) issue with an series x/s controller, what fixed it for me was to forget the controller from my paired bluetooth devices and re-pair it.

    hope this helps

So how do you switch your elite controller back and forth from different devices to windows 10?

Hi ViperMagma, I hope you're doing great out there despite the issue that you're experiencing.

Then, to switch back to the paired Bluetooth device, press and hold the Pair button to start pairing mode. The controller will automatically connect to the Bluetooth device you were just using while it also searches for new devices – just in case you want to connect a different Bluetooth device or Xbox. If it doesn’t find a new device nearby in pairing mode, it will remain connected to the previous Bluetooth device.

As of the moment, the said feature is not yet available on Xbox Elite Series 2. But what I always do is make sure that when you turn on your devices such as PC or Laptop, the Bluetooth is turned off then turn the controller on first before turning on the Bluetooth for it to automatically reconnect.
