Xbox Series X Controller Disconnects Periodically During Gameplay

Hello everyone,

I've been experiencing an issue with my Xbox Series X controller where it disconnects periodically during gameplay. This occurs regardless of the game I am playing and can happen multiple times within a single session, often at the most inconvenient moments. I’ve tried changing the batteries, ensuring they are fully charged, and updating the controller’s firmware, but the problem persists.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? Are there any known fixes or troubleshooting steps that might resolve this? I'd appreciate any advice you can offer, as this is really affecting my gaming experience.

I understand that you are experiencing issues with your controller being disconnected randomly.

I apologize for the inconvenienced this has caused you. I will do my best to help you.

Please do a hard restart. Please hold the power button for about 10 seconds until it turns off completely, then turn it back on.

And then reset and re-sync. Press and hold the Xbox button on your controller for about 6 seconds to turn it off, then turn it back on. Press the Pair button on both the console and the controller to re-sync them wirelessly.

Next it to use a wired connection. Use a USB-C cable to connect your controller to the console. This can help stabilize the connection and prevent disconnections.

Connecting the controller with a USB cable doesn't work,

Controller still disconnects even with a USB cable connected,

I have the same issue with Series X using mouse and keyboard for Call of Duty Vanguard.

I played during the beta and there was no problems with the controller disconnecting but as soon as the game released, the controller disconnects,

I've tried a Xbox One controller Series X controller, with batteries and a USB cable, and the controllers still disconnects.

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Xbox Community. I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with your Xbox controller. You mentioned that it disconnects during gameplay. Does this happen when connected directly via USB or just with wireless?

I would suggest that you try connecting it via USB cable and see if you would encounter the same issue. In addition, do you have other device such as PC where you could connect your controller to test and compare?

? no this is during gameplay i will be using the controller and it randomly disconnects...

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Xbox Community. I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with your Xbox controller. Does this happen whenever you're connected through USB cable or just when connected wirelessly through Bluetooth? Do you have a different controller to test and compare so we can see if the issue is coming from your console or directly from the controller?

As part of our initial troubleshooting, please power cycle your controller: Press and hold the Xbox button for 5-10 seconds until the controller turns off. Wait a few seconds, and then press and hold the Xbox button again to turn the controller back on.
