    Xbox Series X causes Invalid Format on LG C1 when using 4K120Hz


    When watching Streaming Services (and sometimes while idling on the Dashboard) the screen will go black and and Invalid Format logo will appear. Switching Input, Going Home or opening a different app will bring the screen back.

    Looking through the LG C1's HDMI history shows the Xbox sent several unknown signals (shown as: UNKNOWN 0x0 0Hz) to the TV and these are the Invalid Formats.

    The issue does not happen while playing games or watching Streaming Services that use Dolby Vision or HDR10. The issue only happens in 4K@120Hz regardless of any other settings.

    I originally thought this was an issue with the TV, but it has been brought to my attention that it is very likely an issue with the Xbox Series X. The issue only exists on Xbox Series X, and LG has been unable to find a cause.

    So I post here just in case.

    That's coincidental then. As per the last post, it's only started happening since LGs last update! No problems whatsoever prior to that. It all points to that if anything. Plus only when game optimiser is turned on with 4K. Even in the xbox settings for TV details it even says your TV supports 4k 120hz dolby vision gaming but you may experience issues when this is switched on etc... That didn't come up before the update on the TV. However there were both an LG update and xbox update recently so clearly they haven't merged well at all. Thanks for the reply tho buddy 👍

    Same problems for me. Will Microsoft or LG atleast admit their is a problem? This needs to get fixed. I dont care who is at fault. Work together and get it fixed. Otherwise stop advertising your console as 4k120 with vrr.. because it doesnt work currently. And that is unacceptable after more than a year on the market.

    I have the same problem. On my 3rd LG c1. Tried different hdmi cabes and even have 2 xbox series x consoles and all have the same problem. I can game but can’t use Disney plus or most ither streaming apps without constant errors and also my consoles revert to 480p all the time.

    Yes that's exactly what I was saying! I'm so glad it's not just me. That sums it up then, it has to be a fault in the software/firmware then, thanks for your reply and sorry you're going through this aswell, it's so annoying

    Well yeah... I come to realise aswell that it only happens when game optimiser is turned on. If you do all of your normal settings but without game optimiser it actually works fine but then of course you are sacrificing low input lag for resolution and ganes aren't as enjoyable. It has only started doing it since their recent software update on the TV as that update was something to do with game optimiser being switched on whenever dolby content is detected. This has also happened with other TVS in the past, not just LG either. I would reach out to LG but as far as posts through here go. People are saying that they basically don't have a clue sadly 🤷‍♂️
