XBox series X can’t switch to 4K

My TV is an LG C2OLED42, and so all of the HDMI ports support HDMI 2.1, with 4K 120hz.

I previously had an XBOX Series S, which never had any issues.

I upgraded to a series X on January 12th and this keeps happening. I am using the supplied HDMI cable.

I have changed Video fidelity options, changed ports, powered everything off and reset and this issue keeps coming back, after fixing it for a week or so.

In the latest episode, I have tried everything and it still refuses to switch to 4K - ironically in this instance, despite telling me that the 4K mode is available.

This is frustrating.

I had a similar issue with my LC C2OLED65, when exiting a game it would not go back and display the xbox dashboard.

I upgraded my cables to **certified** 4k 48Gbps cables from monoprice. solved my problem.

So, I would focus on your HDMI cable.

This TV is notorious for incompatibilities with Xbox, this is not something that Xbox can patch out. This requires a firmware update, or servicing of the television. There is an incompatibility between the HDMI transceiver chips.

I highly suggest that you contact LG and ask them what the status is on finding a solution to this problem.

The best solution that I have found others have usedwith this issue is to use an HDMI repeater such as a receiver with HDMI ports. This will change the chip the TV is handshaking with. Your mileage may vary, but this has had the best success for others

If memory serves, and don’t quote me on this, Denon uses the same chips, so I would stay away from them with anything. You would have a hard time returning.

What resolution are you trying to run at

If 4k 120 Hz then no it won't run at thaf

The max for series s is 1440p at 120hz

It will play at 4k bur only some games and with issues

The series s is meant for 1080p 120 max

With suggested 90hz

The xbox series x and ps5 and switch pro are the only 4k consoles

One x does 4k at 30hz and ps4 pro upscales

Hi I have a Xbox series x with a Dolby vision compatible tv also will the allow Dolby vision playback selected in settings on and it still only displays in HDR only when playing 4k blu rays ? I have set it 4k 60hz and the games display in Dolby vision plus streaming apps but not 4k disc playback! Is this correct that the xbox series can’t do this ?

Xbox Series X will release Holiday 2020, given Xbox's track record of releasing new consoles, they've usually been around November.

It will have Blu-Ray.

With the Xbox One X, it uses checkerboarding to get 4K resolution, though it's not true 4K, it's what allows the One X to get to 4K,

With the Xbox Series X, it will use true native 4K, you may see that the Series X will look a little better at 4K than the One X at 4K.
