Xbox series x cannot connect to 5 ghz band

This has been a weird issue since day 1 for my Xbox series x. For some reason, it cannot connect to my 5 ghz network. Whenever I attempt to, it remains on the attempting to connect or testing connection screen and basically freezes there. If I back out, it says I am “connected” but I have no internet on the Xbox. Weird thing is, whenever I attempt to connect and after backing out, my entire 5 ghz band is brought down for all of my devices in my home. Every other device can connect perfectly fine to this band, my phone, tablet, laptop, tv, etc. However after attempting to connect via my Xbox, my devices can no longer connect to the internet via this band. They remain connected but there is no internet. This occurs until I manually disconnect from the network with my Xbox or switch to a new network.

The 2.4 band works complete fine with my Xbox, just my 5 ghz connection is weird. What’s going on? I think i tried all troubleshooting methods and nothing has worked.

My router does run the 2.5 GHz band simultaneously and my XBOX 360 connects to it without problems. It is not, that I don't have a connection. I do. I just cannot connect to the 5 GHz band, which I could before.

Okay let me suggest something stronger!

The first step in resetting an Xbox is to open the main menu. This can be accomplished in one of two ways:

Press the home button on your Xbox controller. This is the illuminated button with a stylized X that is centrally located on the front of the controller near the top.

Alternately, you can press the left bumper until you reach the home tab, and then press left on the d-pad.

Press down on the d-pad until you reach the gear icon.

Press the A button to select the gear icon.

With all settings highlighted, press the A button again to open the settings menu.

Press down on the d-pad until you reach System.

Press the A button to open the System submenu.

With console info highlighted, press the A button again.

Press down on the d-pad to select reset console.

Press the A button to select this option and move to the final step.

Press left on the d-pad to select Reset and remove everything. Then press the A button.

Hi there Jacob welcome to the community forum! Christopher here, an Xbox fan just like you and has been on Xbox for years already. I would really love to make your day by helping you out. You mention you have tried a lot of troubleshooting methods, have you tried this?:

Open the Xbox Guide by pressing the guide button on the controller and select

Settings.

Select Network Settings.

Select Advanced Settings.

Under Change Settings select Alternate MAC Address.

Select Clear.

Allow the console to restart when prompted.

If so, please let me know!
