Xbox Series X audio dropout

Hello everyone,

I’ve been experiencing a strange audio dropout on my Xbox Series X. It’s certainly not game breaking but it’s an annoyance and can’t seem to find anything online. I have the console set up to a Samsung 4K UHD TV using only the TV’s audio which I do not believe is the problem as I also have a PS5 and Switch connected and have no such problems with those. After about an hour and a half of game play on any game there will be a roughly second long sound dropout, not visual purely sound. I’ve tried swapping HDMI ports and use the 2.1 cable provided with the console. As mentioned it’s not game breaking but I was wondering if anybody had experienced a similar problem?

I saw this happening with some people. How are your audio settings inside Xbox? Is HDMI Audio on or Optical Audio on?

You'll need to try different audio configurations to see if one makes this audio issue go away. If it's a no audio at all issue it's easier to find what the problem is, but for intermittent audio issues (specially just for a couple of seconds each hour) it'll be very hard to find what the issue is.

But please, if you can, try playing with different audio settings and output and see if the problem goes away.

deadpool played for me in 4k but froze at spots with audio dropout and frozen picture

I have almost the same problem except the error message says

“if you’re using Xbox series X/S, note that HDMI audio can’t be turned off. In other consoles, either optical or HDMI audio must be on. (0x80bd0009)

Why can’t I turn off hdmi audio on Xbox series x it makes no sense?

There are multiple articles stating audio compatibility via USB. If optical is necessary, there are various HDMI to optical devices available which you may need to add.
