    Xbox Series X and Samsung 800A soundbar


    What is the best way to connect the Xbox Series X to a Samsung hw-q800a soundbar and 2016 Samsung TV? I notice from the online manual for the soundbar that there is HDMI eARC out and HDMI in as well as optical out on the soundbar. Currently, I have the Xbox connected to the TV using the TVs HDMI eARC port and I notice that there's no optical out from the Series X. I also have an audio source which I could hook to the soundbar via optical.

    Is it as simple as standard HDMI from Xbox to soundbar, HDMI eARC from soundbar to TV and then use the optical for my audio source and just switch on the soundbar as to which source is in use? If I do this, will the soundbar and TV turn on automagically when I power on the Xbox (or, more specifically, when my wife and kids- who only want one remote or a controller- turn it on)? Will I lose any functionality (e.g. 4k UHD) if I do it this way? Is there a better way?

    Absolutely agree.

    So your set up is presumably just Xbox Series X to TV via HDMI and the sound comes out of you TV speakers? Interesting if that’s the case and further confirms that the soundbar is not the problem (if only Samsung would listen!)

    I don't have a soundbar setup, just straight from console to TV.

    I feel like Samsung can't really deny that the update is the cause. I tested the Series X with another display and could not replicate the issue. That's on top of the fact that everyone having this issue is using some form of Samsung TV...

    Power of deduction and all that... lol

    This doesn't look right to me (i could be wrong) Xbox One -> HDMI -> Samsung TV ARC -> HDMI -> Samsung Soundbar
    Should be....
    Xbox One -> HDMI -> Samsung Soundbar (must be a ARC compatible soundbar with the correct HDMI sockets in/out) -> HDMI -> Samsung TV ARC / Headset optical -> Samsung Soundbar change setting on xbox

    ATMOS on most recent Xbox One X

    App is not recognizing my HDMI input from Samsung One Connect to the XBox One X and Samsung Q80R Soundbar. Called Samsung support...walked me through settings for television to ensure One Connect set properly and the Dolby App will not let me select ATMOS...just
    DTS and Dolby.

    Soundbar also would not update firmware when I inserted USB drive....so Samsung is asking me to send soundbar to them for repair/replacement. What a pain...

    All I get is TV ARC on display....even if playing the ATMOS media from Dolby App on Xbox or YouTube Demo media.

    I swapped out the HDMI between One Connect and XBOX with no change even rebooting system. Did rest on soundbar. Used regular, ethernet enabled and High Speed HDMI....got a couple 4k cables as well to try as last resort before I ship to Samsung for service.

    So the journey begins.
