  1. Xbox Series X Allow Dolby Vision/Dolby for Gaming and Allow Auto Low Latency Mode

I have chatted with an Xbox Agent and while I read specifics about what is in articles online and the info given by a Microsoft agent are different I would like 1 same definitive answer. My TV is capable of everything except I do not have 2.1 HDMI so I can not use 4k at 120hz. Enabling Dolby Vision for Gaming /Turns off Auto Low Latency Mode called by the console "Game Mode' During set up even though My tv supports a Game mode within its own settings IT was recomended that this be shut off I am supposing for the ALLM within console settings. Having that button checked and Dolby Vision for gaming at the same time results in Game loading like this ; "Game Mode turuned on by your Console - Game mode turned off by your console - Dolby vision Icon." Dolby vision at first looks muddied and yellowish Often I have to restart the game and turn off ALLM.

Without ALLM checked, it loads immediately to Dolby Vision, The XBOX rep says this is by design, Every other article I read outside Microsoft says it is a bug.

So Ultimitaley I play only with HDR 10 and Dolby not checked. Is this a bug or is it by design? How do I correct it? ALLM does not seem to have issue with HDR10.

also Certain scenarios I want to explore: 1: What if I want to stream media content (My TV has native dolby vision so no need to go to my TV settings and turn it on with the exception of the sound arc for a sound bar.) How do I set up this to work? Also the scenario exception in the first question brings the second 2: what If I want to use my Sound bar for Dolby sound/Atmos/DTS what have you Without interfering with ALLM toggle. So I don't have to fidjet with turning the Dolby vision on in the xbox everytime I switch modes? Summary ALLM works with HDR10 but not Dolby vision. How to use Dolby without figeting around with video settings on my console whenever I want to watch/hear Dolby stuff while my Xbox is using a media streaming app?

    Thanks

    :)

I'm not gonna add anything to this topic but your post made me remember that my TV is set to HDR game mode on hdmi port of xbox, but now everytime I launch a game I get the dolbyvison pop up on my tv, but when I check which image mode is set it still is hdr game mode, the xbox has weird behavior, I have 2 other devices compatible with dolbyvision and it only shows the dolbyvison logo if I do select it as image mode.

I also disabled HDMI CEC in the TV settings of the Xbox, I only wanted to be able to control the Xbox with my tv remote, which is the most basic of the basics, but it doesn't work and the CEC makes my TV do weird stuff, so I disabled it and all is fine now, I have to navigate Netflix and Disney+ with my controller like a moron but at least it works I guess.

Xbox Series X Allow Dolby Vision/Dolby for Gaming and Allow Auto Low Latency Mode

    Hi Udder Discharge,

Thanks for reaching out to the Xbox forums! I am sorry to hear that you struggle with Dolby Vision/Dolby for Gaming and Allow Auto Low Latency Mode. I am more than happy to help answer your questions to the best of my knowledge and find additional resources for you. Your Xbox Series X came with an HDMI 2.1. An HDMI 2.1 cable adds auto low latency mode (ALLM) that will automatically switch your display to its best mode for gaming. Also, you are correct that if your display comes with a Game Mode, you want to turn it off as it can interfere with your image. HMDI 2.0 limits the HDR10 and, of course, viewing things at 120hrz. ALLM works with Dolby vision. As for using a soundbar, you need to use an HDMI ARC-enabled soundbar and TV port. You need to make sure it's either Arc or eArc. You will also need to purchase the Dolby Atmos app on Xbox to enable it.

I hope these suggestions help! If this answers your question, please mark the thread as “Answered.”

Ok I have been playing with this for a while. My input on my TV Does indicate that TV setting have a new input description (came in a firmware update).

Now instead of being to select HDMI 1.4 or 2.0 or Auto, I now have Auto and Standard. On a 2.0 input with a 2.0 HDMI cable, on Standard "Auto Low Latency Mode" and on Auto "The best choice for what input device is used" When I select Auto there is still a check mark in standard for ALLM. Now is this meaning my TV has ALLM support? When I switched to streaming netflix on the xbox ALLM carries over as it turns off my streaming preference for viewing, rather it keeps Motion on (the soap opera effect) It keeps bright on high. So Every time I use the XBOX and switch medias (from gaming to streaming) I have to change settings EVERY time. I do not know why. I have TCL 55r617.

Unless your going to fork over 1000s of dollars to get 1 of the 5 manufacturers that have 2.1. Dolby vision will not work with ALLM.

Performance of hdr10 is not relevant nor is ALLM.

Dolby vision does not work with ALLM. This is confirmed that this is by design. You choose between the higher fidelity of Dolby vision over Game mode ALLM.

Hi thanks I have played with this for sometime, There is a green check mark by ALLM. ALLM is supported by a 2.0. 2.1 hdmi only exception is no 60@120hz.

HDR10 is also has a green check without a 2.1 input there are no limitations as my input during game indicate HDR10 is working. I can do this by checking my inputrs throught TV settings (Auto select for 2.0 enables ALLM Feature on My TV). Dolby Vision for games does not work when ALLM is enabled.

Everything is green on 4K EXCEPT for 120hz because of the lack of 2.1 port. When I turn off ALLM through XBOX setting Dolby vision works.
