Xbox Series S unable to play online multiplayer

Hi there,

I have recently bought a brand new Series S console and it will not work properly when connected to my home Internet.

The xbox says "Servers down" on GTA expanded enhanced, and keeps trying to connect.

Console can't get past the "press A to start" screen on battlefield 2042 online, which says there is a connection error.

Before I continue: Everything works 100% normal when I use mobile 4g hotspot from my phone, I can open and run GTA online which means the servers aren't down. Sadly this isn't a solution as my data is slowed down after a certain GB/month and also the data drops often which makes online multiplayer unplayable.

The console connects to the Internet, as I was able to download the games and browse the store as well as see my friends list etc. However there is a mysterious issue preventing my console from properly working online with my home network.

The NAT type is open, the console passes multiplayer connection tests with no issue although on a few occasions it said there was an issue with some Xbox service status, however when I checked online the current xbox service status was all green, except for Fifa 23 which I wasn't trying to play anyway.

I have tried to clear the cache, hard + soft reset, power cycle, custom IP and DNS settings, all kinds of solutions that the xbox suggested already and that others on the Internet suggested. The console is brand new and when its on mobile hotspot everything works. So the issue lies between the console and my home network. I really hope somebody can help me get this resolved as my tech expert brother is stumped too. We tried getting a WiFi extender *WiFi range isn't the issue, but perhaps the modem/router is* but the extender didn't change anything.

Hello PootisSpencer13, by your description I can tell you that the issue is not on your console, you did correctly when testing the console on a hotspot 4g connection.

I can suggest you two things, the first is to do the connection test without the network extender, it may not be passing some necessary protocol for the multiplayer connection.

And then depending on how the network behaves without the network extender requesting a review of your network for your internet service provider.

The OP stated that they bought the extender to see if it made any difference...the problem was there before they tried the extender, so removing the extender will make no difference

Do you mean an Xbox One S or an Xbox Series S? The game is not available for the One.

The game plays the same with or without Game Pass. You would just need Gold if you wanted to play online multiplayer.
