Xbox series s making a very light tapping sound every 2 seconds when on standby

Hey guys had my xbox series s since launch but about a year ago I noticed a very light tapping sound coming from where the psu would sit under the shell of the xbox when in standby mode but does not make the sound when it's on . It does it like every 2 seconds like a single tap can't hardly notice it, it runs completely fine has never shut it self off unexpectedly or anything still works as if it is brand new .like I said it was about a year ago I noticed it so it can't be that bad but I wanted to see if anyone else had this issue. I was told it could be a electrical issue with the home as my router does the same thing.

That is probably your issue, then. I would suggest you to contact an electrician to see your home's electrical installation.

Since this happens with two electrical equipments (console and router), it is probably not a console issue.

You can try to take your console to another house (friend or family) and plug it into the power outlet to see if it keeps doing the noise. If the noise is not there, it is for sure an electrical issue on your home, my friend.

Woud you please try to change your console power mode to energy saving and see how it goes?

- Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

- Select Profile & system > Settings > General > Power mode & start-up.

- From the Power mode drop-down menu, choose Energy-saving.

If the issue persists, since it happens with your modem too, it can be an electrical issue for sure. Have this always been happening with your router and console?

Hi yes with the router iv had 3 different ones and they are all making the same sound ,and the series s I only noticed it over a year ago but the console it self is absolutely fine no problems with it .if I switch it to energy saving mode it makes a coil whine sound.but no tapping sound.the house did get hit with lighting once over a year ago that's when the router started to go funny to, so I'm starting to think it's something to do with the electricity in the home.

Attempted to turn off the option to power down drive so that it would be always on, but even then it spins down and up again every minute. So it seems no matter what setting it's on, it will not

1. keep drive powered on when in standby

or

2. keep drive powered off when in standby

So if it's doing a status check every 60 seconds, is it the drive that is spinning up on its own, or is it the XBOX OS that is spinning it up I wonder?

I have another drive which I have plugged in and tried this on, it is a Hitachi Touro 1tb (usb powered hdd) and it also spins up every 60 seconds. I plugged the hitachi into another XBOX one S and noticed it exhibited the identical behaviour... Spinning
up and down every 60 seconds.

So that's two drives on two Xbox One's. I'm very puzzled. Thoughts?

I should clarify when I say full shutdown, I mean a fully powered-down state with the orange light on the power brick.

Cap, are you referring to Instant On mode? In that case you're right, a shutdown doesn't fully power down. But if you're in Standby mode, a normal "Console Off" will put you in the same power state as holding power for 8 seconds, as the power brick will
go to an orange light. (This can be triggered by holding the Xbox button on the controller and choosing "Console Off," or by tapping the power logo on the console IF you're in Standby. Otherwise, you have to hold the Xbox Logo for 8 seconds.)
