Xbox Series S made a loud POP sound and turned off

After playing for about 45 minutes, I heard a loud POP sound, my xbox shut down completely and then a weird smell lingered for a couple of seconds. At first I thought I blew a fuse and it was my outlet I was plugged into. After checking my circuit breaker, everything was fine and I realized that my monitor (plugged into the same outlet) was still on, therefore it must be the xbox. Now my xbox refuses to turn on at all. Im thinking something inside might have blown in regards to the power supply? I tried letting it rest for 5 minutes and plugged it back in but no luck. I also tried different outlets but still not luck.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is there any fix to it or will I have to send it in for repair?

But, normally this occurs when the internal fuse of the power supply is damaged by the power fluctuation.

The console will not turn on anyway, in which case, it will be necessary to forward the console for repair.

I'm sorry to hear that this happened to you with your Xbox, mostly when this happens or makes this type of noise it is because the power supply is damaged, and obviously it will not turn on since it is damaged it is in charge of distributing the energy in the console. You have 2 options:

The first is to go to a friend who has an Xbox just like yours from the same series and borrow their power supply and attach it to your Xbox to find out if this is the real problem.

And the other thing is to request a repair directly from Xbox, through this link: http://myservice.xbox.com

So, I recently noticed that my Xbox Series X fan runs loud when playing Series X|S / Optimised for Series X|S games specifically.

It’s quite strange as it’s dead quiet every other time, but as soon as I start a Series X|S game, the fan becomes so loud that I need to turn up the tv volume.. it’s quite distracting.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions?

FYI - My Series X is a pre-order/launch day model.. and it sits in an open and well ventilated tv/entertainment stand*

In comparison, I owned an Xbox One S for three years and I never heard the fan on that.

I’m having the exact same problem now. The only time my Xbox sounds loud is when running series x enhanced games, it’s completely fine on old gen games. Have you had this issue fixed or is it still a problem now?

Hi there!

Sorry to hear about the issues you've had recently.

It sounds to me like you have had a power surge within your home which has caused an a lot of electricity to go into the console at one time.

The official Xbox One power supply does come with a built in surge protector, but it must be reset before you can use it. To do this, please follow these instructions:

1. Unplug the cables from the console, wall outlet and power supply itself.

2. Wait 10 seconds. It is important that you wait 10 seconds. as this step lets the power supply reset. Make sure that you unplug the power supply unit from both the wall and your Xbox One console.

3. Firmly plug the power cable back into the console, and then plug the power cable back into the power outlet and the power supply. Connect the power supply directly into a wall outlet. Do not use any surge protectors or extension cords, because they can
affect the performance of your power supply.

4. Turn on the console and check the light on the power supply.
