  1. Xbox Series S Fan 'Ticking' Noise HELP HELP HELP

Bought a Series S just before Christmas and have noticed that every now and then the fan makes a very light 'ticking' sound, and I have heard stories and seen videos of peoples Series S consoles that are way worse (Some of which saying they replaced their
consoles because of it). I am very confused as to why it is happening as it is brand new and not even a month old. It is sat on my desk with enough ventilation so it should be getting enough cold air to circulate through the system.

Microsoft appear to be quite hard to get a hold of due to the excessive demand and all I wish to ask is, Is this normal?, Do I need to get it repaired/replaced?, What is the source of the sound in the first place?, Will it get worse? Anyone with some answers
or pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

    :)

Xbox series S shuts off within minutes - says it’s over heating?

    Thanks for the help.

I checked the resolution. It was set to UHD. If the series S can’t push that resolution why is it an option.

re: the fan, the grill is hot but there is no fan noise or noticeable airflow. For reference when my laptop fan turns on I can hear it and feel it. For this Xbox, there is nothing. I can put my ear right up to it. No fan noise at all. I do t have a reference as I have never used a different Xbox s but I am also thinking the fan is not functional. For those that have an Xbox s - can you hear the fan when it’s functioning normally?

Just wanted to circle back for anyone else that finds this thread.

First, thanks to those who responded,...

responses were quick and people actually read the question... that's nice...

    the responses were also accurate.

    - "taking it back" wasn't an option, due to online ordering. but the Service Order Option worked out.

    - I went to set up a repair order and found it would take 5-12 days of shipping, but also that I could set up an appointment with a "near-ish" Microsoft store for as early as the next day...

    - I made an appointment and "Jaime" was quick and efficient. He powered it up and immediately identified it as "not right" and boxed me up a replacement and did all the paperwork. I was in and out in 25 minutes.

    - It took me days to set up the first box, but only "hours" to set up the replacement... somewhere along the line the settings had been saved online and they transferred to the new box. All I had to do was re-download several GIGs of files.

Moral of the story, if you really believe you have a bad fan, then trust yourself and follow this link

    https://support.microsoft.com/devices

But also be aware, the new unit isn't "silent"... there is a definite fan noise, but there isn't the "squeak and rattle" that I had in the original unit.

    Thanks to all that helped.

    Help, Fan noise

If you have only had the Xbox for a few days, then you should be able to take it back to the shop where you got it from and get a replacement or money back.

If you believe it to be a bad fan, take it back to point of purchase and get a replacement.

    Hey Daryn,

It sounds like you need to put a order in to have the Xbox Service, Repaired or replace.

You can do so at the following website
    Microsoft Device.

Add your Device and put in an order so it can be fixed.
