Xbox Series S download speed slow, but other devices fast.

So I've looked for answers everywhere on this subject and none so far have been satisfactory.

I currently have my Xbox Series S connected through WiFi to my router. My phone in the exact same location when speed testing will get 90-100mbps speeds, but my Xbox will only get about 35-40mbps when performing Xbox network tests and Ookla speed tests. Why is this?

I've noticed a lot of people asking the same question and they're told to reset the Xbox etc etc., but this does nothing to help. Please I'm not looking for the same repeat answer of reset the Xbox or reboot the router. I would also get an ethernet connection but sadly this isn't possible, and at the end of the day if my phone can get 100mbps on the WiFi, then my Xbox should too.

Any new ideas to help fix this would be much appreciated. Thanks!

    :)

Xbox Series S download speed slow, but other devices fast.

Hi Will, my name is Rodrigo. I'm an Independent Advisor and a member of the Microsoft community and I'd love to assist you today.

I am sorry to hear that.

You can use your device IP on the DMZ of your Router.

    There are great guides online*:

    https://www.windowscentral.com/xbox-one-dmz-guide

    https://www.ubisoft.com/help/connec...article/setting-up-dmz-for-xbox-one/000061024

There is also this complete guide about NAT errors and configuration on the Xbox website, I recommend it:

    https://support.xbox.com/help/hardware-network/connect-network/xbox-one-nat-error

    ----------------------------------------
    Setting the DMZ
    ----------------------------------------

    ----------------------------------------
    A) On your Router
    ----------------------------------------
    1. Make sure to use the ethernet cable connection, it is more reliable than the Wi-Fi one. (If possible)

    2. You then, have to assign a static (fixed) IP for your Xbox console on your router, which will enable you to do the next steps

    3. Turn on DMZ under the IP you selected for your Xbox Console.

    4. Turn on UPnP on your router

By doing that, you'll pretty much have an open and direct connection to the game servers.

    ----------------------------------------
    B) On the Xbox Console
    ----------------------------------------

    Configure the network settings accordingly.

    Enter the Settings menu.

Under the General tab, select Network Settings then Advanced Settings.

Take note of the information displayed

    Select IP Settings > Manual.

Enter the same IP you configured on your router DMZ.

    Games & Apps switching lag

How good is your internet? I have 100mb/s download speed and 10mb/s upload speed. Is your console hardwired to your home network via Ethernet cable, or wireless and are multiple people/devices using the internet at the same time.

Also remember Xbox 1 only has a slow 1.75Ghz clocked processor (AMD Jaguar 8 core APU). More cores means a processor can handle more apps simultaneously, but how FAST it can handle it.... also depends on the clock speed.

    Download Speed increase

Hi, there are many factors that contribute to slow download speeds, 24Mb/s is reasonable but of course if you have a faster connection speed provided by your ISP you want it to be a fast as possible.

If you're using a wireless connection then switching to a wired connection will often improve speeds by a large amount. If you have lots of devices connected to the network that can slow things down to. Other than that there's not a lot you can do with a
wireless connection if that's what you're using. If you believe it's an issue with your connection itself it never hurts to contact your provider and ask them to check things are working as they should.

BF4 taking over 7 hours to get to 12% installation

It does matter how fast your internet connection is.

    .

Title updates for the xbox one are massive compared to what they are for the xbox 360.

    .

Part of the installation time is the time it takes to download the updates. If you have a slow connection or if you are on a congested wifi channel your installation will take ages.

    .

It is now quite common for game updates to be hundreds of megabytes in size. On a slow connection this will cause downloads to take hours. Average update for 360 is less than 6MB. On xbox one they often over 600MB. I think BF4 was over 900MB when I last
    updated it.

    .

That's why I asked for your download speed. If your download speed is slow then that will be the reason. If your download speed is fast then there will be some other problem.
