Xbox series s controller messed up

Hi I got a Xbox series s on my birthday after 2 months now my controller won’t work the sync button does not work my a b x y and bumpers don’t work and the dead don’t work also the share button and the start and select button don’t work only the triggers and the analog sticks work can I plug it into my pc and update it with any software to fix this or do I need to get a net controller and is this a common issue

Hi Zack, I hope you're doing great out there despite the issue that you're experiencing. I am an Independent advisor and I am here to help you in regards to your concern.

You can try to connect via wired cable on your Xbox Series S and check if that will make any difference and see if you can update it from there.

1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide, select Profile & system > Settings > Devices & streaming > Accessories, and then select the controller you want to update.

2. On the Xbox Wireless Controller screen, select “…” to check the firmware version for your controller.

3. If it says “Update,” select Firmware version, and then follow the steps provided.

If that didn't work, you can try and get a replacement for the controller. Also, as I have checked, it's not a common issue. You can request a replacement for your controller by signing in to this link and submitting the controller's serial number:

After you have successfully completed the replacement order the shipping label will be sent to you within 24-48 hours.

Xbox Series X|S controllers are fully compatible with the Xbox One, One S and One X. Also the Xbox One controllers work on the new Series consoles.

I had the same problem but I sent a series s controller and I got a one s controller in return, and the series s controller I sent came with my Xbox, brand new

Xbox wireless controllers, including the latest Xbox Wireless Controllers included with the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, are compatible with the Xbox Series S. In addition, some older Xbox One wireless controllers work with the Xbox Series S. As for third-party wireless controllers, the compatibility depends on the specific controller and whether it is designed to work with the Xbox wireless protocol. The Ant eSports controller you mentioned appears to be a third-party controller designed for PC gaming, and it may not be compatible with the Xbox Series S.
