    Xbox Series S and X Passthrough Audio Issue


    The passthrough audio to receiver feature is not working as intended. Disney+, Max, Netflix do not bitstream out Dolby Digital formats to my receiver. It’s only stuck on PCM while playing movies.

    Before I would leave my xbox configured to uncompressed 5.1 in order for games to use PCM respectively. When i launch any streaming app, it would normally pass Dolby Digital+ to my receiver but for the last 3 months Ive noticed it doesn't work on any movie I start.

    Series X Audio Passthrough still not working

    Having the same issue. On my Series X and S yhe Passthrough will be checked but it does not bitstream the content that it reads. Disney+ Max and Netflix do not pass the audio to my receiver. Stuck with PCM no Dolby Digital passthrough! Been looking for a solution for 3 months now!!

    Xbox Series S Audio Passthrough is still broken and it doesn't work for Netflix.

    I have the same issue on my Xbox Series X. Audio passthrough works perfectly fine with Disney+, Amazon Prime and Plex. When it comes to Netflix, it doesn't activate passthrough creating audio problems while playing Atmos content. The titles display Dolby Atmos, but there is no voice, only background music and sounds are played.

    Hello David, sorry to hear you're having audio trouble.

    Xbox is aware that there have been some audio issues across apps and games and request that a bug report be filed by downloading the Xbox Insider Hub if you don't have it already then follow the instructions on the app to file the bug.

    After that, if other steps have not worked you could try a factory reset on the console. There's an option to keep installed games and apps and your saves will be safe on the Cloud. Please be sure that you know the email/password for your account as this will remove it from the console.

    You can start the reset via the Settings on the console. Do not use the app or bring over previous settings if you're prompted to do so.

    Xbox Series X - I can no longer turn off hdmi audio since installing the september update

    I have almost the same problem except the error message says

    “if you’re using Xbox series X/S, note that HDMI audio can’t be turned off. In other consoles, either optical or HDMI audio must be on. (0x80bd0009)

    Why can’t I turn off hdmi audio on Xbox series x it makes no sense?

    Xbox series X has no in game sound but has sound on dashboard and everywhere else

    3. ONLY the Xbox-Series X has this issue, No other, including the Series S which is the “little brother” of the Series X

    Are you sure, that the Series S is not affected?
