Xbox Series face buttons become intermittent

I've got a new series controller and after an hour or two of having the face buttons become intermittent. If I double press I may only get one press, if I press a button quickly out may not register at all. I thought this was a hardware issue and was going to ask for a replacement but taking the batteries out fixes the problem for a while. This is for all games and even in the Settings Test app. I've tried another series controller I have and it doesn't seem to happen with that one. Firmware is up to date. Console in using is an Xbox one s.

Is this a known problem and I'd be wasting my time to return it? It's a custom one from Microsoft themselves and bought about a month ago.

As far as I know this is not a known problem of the controller. If your other controller works fine on the same batteries, I would suggest you to ask for a replacement of this faulty one.

I faced this problem with the series 1, it fixed itselft after an update, also I decided to map the A & B buttons to the sticks in the back

There is currently a fix in the alpha and delta rings for the insider program to fix intermittant disconnects. MS is aware of the issue so hopefully a fix becomes widespread soon.

This is pretty common with the elite series 2 as the button becomes more concave over time.
