    Xbox Series controller keeps disconnecting from PC and consoles (USB-C)


    I usually play my games with no batteries in the controller via a wired USB connection with no batteries inside. The controller usually works fine for a few months right out of the box but eventually they all fail while I'm playing games, either disconnecting from the PC entirely, or worse, just using the power from my PC and turning on the Xbox in my living room. This has happened to 3 of my controllers so far including the Xbox Elite controller (first version). As far as troubleshooting goes i have tried playing with the controller flat on the table, ensuring neither the cable or the controller move, I have tried different usb cables including the official one packaged with the Elite controller and I have given the usb ports a little cleaning with a thin, dry brush. The results are still the same, after a few moments, my games will stop receiving input from the controller and say it has disconnected.

    Is there anything else i can do to try and remedy the situation or prevent it from happening to future controllers? (I am not going to play via bluetooth, i often bring my controller to gaming events and play via the cable connected to a PC or other console via adapter)

    Elite Series 2 Controller keeps "disconnecting"

    Hi Zack,

    I had something similar occur with my elite series 2 controller; however, the issue was specific to the Xbox. I’m not sure about PC. This is what I did to fix it.

    This re-syncs the controller via USB-C cable.

    1. For this, it's worth trying to power off the entire Xbox. Press and hold the power button on your Xbox until it fully turns off, then disconnect the power for a minute or so. This fully power cycles the console.
    2. Before you turn on the Xbox console, connect your Xbox controller to your Xbox console with a USB-C cable.
    3. Turn on your Xbox console by powering on the connected Xbox controller, pressing the Xbox button.
    4. Once the Xbox console has fully powered on, you should be able to disconnect the USB cable, and the controller should remain fully synced up having received pairing information from the controller directly.

    Hi,

    Almost any USB C to USB A cable (your standard USB Phone/tablet charge cable) will work fine for PC or console gaming with a Series X type controller. I use a 2M USB C cable to connect my Series X controller to my PC.

    I don't have any Bluetooth issues, but using a cable does avoid changing the batteries so much. 😁

    On the video, Xbox Series X has USB type A only.

    The new controller, I think is type-A (Xbox Series X) to type-c (controller). (Elite2 is a to c usb)

    Hi, I am using Xbox series x and my controller keeps disconnecting. I have tried using USB cable but they never seem to fit and are wiggly and I keep disconnecting from the console. I purchased a rechargeable battery and I still have issues with connectivity. I have tried myriad of solutions including updating, power cycling, connecting to PC using USB, connected to Series X using USB. I am actually of thinking of selling the Xbox for this reason. 500 dollar junk
