Xbox series 2 controller not working on pc via USB

Hi all,

I received a series 2 controller today. I plugged it into my pc with the USB cable and it powered up. I downloaded the xbox accessory app and configured it. The controller worked for about 15-20 minutes then it disconnected.

Now it will not work at all via USB. It still connects to other devices via Bluetooth but unfortunately my pc doesn't have Bluetooth yet.

I've tried reinstalling the app and restarting my pc and different cables but nothing works.

Please any advice would be appreciated

good work around but i am still surprised the controller is not turning off when holding the xbox button, as all my controller do and they are a mix of xbox one controllers and series controllers. regardless if connected via wireless or usb to the pc.

Hi, yes. You can try using that command to downgrade the firmware.

But it works only if the computer detects the controller

These are the full steps:

Connect the controller via USB then open Xbox Accessories App

Once there press Windows key + R and paste the next command in the box:

xboxaccessories:\\firmwareupdate?legacyDowngrade=true

Hit Enter and now Xbox Accessories App will prompt a message and the firmware downgrade process is going to start

If maybe the issue persists I think that the best option could be request a replacement / repair for the controller

Hi, did you remember updating the controller firmware or similar?

If yes, did you disconnected the controller in the middle of the process?

Also, can you try connecting the console to an Xbox console? (Can be a friend's console)

This is to check if the controller is recognized there and if possible downgrade the firmware (or update it)

i dont recall clicking update firmware unless it does it automatically? then yes it was possible it may have been disconnected as i was fiddling around changing the sticks and d pad.

im waiting for my Bluetooth dongle to arrive today. i understand you can downgrade the firmware using this conmmand

i will give that a try and see what happens. unfortunately no one i know has an xbox

hi josef,

the controller doesnt connect to any device via the USB C cable.

nothing shows up in the device manager either.

im unable to update the plug and play software device enumerator as it it already up to date, and i cannot uninstall it as that option is greyed out.

i have purchased a bluetooth dongle for the meantime but id prefer to use it via usb if possible.

i dont understand why it would work for 15-20 minutes then stop
